We were planning our first big family vacation, and we decided upon San Diego as the destination. I was in charge of finding a hotel, and even with friends in the area, had no idea where to start. I stumbled upon this hotel when looking. We were attracted to it because of the location and kitchen it had in the room. We took a leap of faith and booked it.
Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised with the courtesy provided us by the front desk staff. They were very pleasant and helped us with a smile. The room was exactly what we expected. It did have a musty feel to it, but it wasn't bad or overpowering at all. The kitchen was clean and very usable. Perfect for reheating leftovers and cooking for the kids, as we did numerous times over the course of our stay. We settled in, and then we immediately drove out into the surrounding area in search of food.
The location was great. We came across a mall complete with Target within 5 minutes drive from the hotel. Numerous restaurants line the streets surrounding the area. From Carl's Jr. to Vietnamese, we were pleasantly surprised with the nearby eating locations. In addition, the hotel had a very nice, free breakfast each morning. Mon-Thurs they served dinner to the guests free of charge as well. The dinners were decent. The kids loved them.
The hotel is in a central location for sight-seeing as well. It's located 10-15 minutes from SeaWorld and the closest beaches. Coronado is a little bit farther...maybe 30-40 minutes. Old Town is an area of the city that has a lot of Mexican restaurants and quaint stores. San Diego also has a Little Italy section. It's not great, but it is another attraction about 10 minutes away. If you have kids, Lego Land is the big thing in the vicinity. It's about 40 minutes away. All in all, the location is very good.
We spent most of our time outside of the hotel, but at night we slept well. The walls were a little thin, but noise from adjacent rooms wasn't a problem. The cleaning staff was excellent and brought us whatever we requested quickly and with a smile. We didn't run into any attitude here. We did use the pool a lot, and it was very warm. The Jacuzzi was nice as well. The only problem we had was with the cleanliness of the pool. It was very clean the first couple of days, but the last day we were there, a lot of debris was floating in it.
By the time we left, we felt very well taken care of at this hotel. It was an enjoyable stay, and we would definitely return for another visit.
