We visited here while visiting Cabrillo National Monument. It was great to see how the lighthouse worked and how the keepers lived.

There are excellent historical displays in the building next to the lighthouse and recreated rooms inside the lighthouse. The views from the nearby viewpoint are great. All in all, well worth a visit inside the Cabrillo National Monument.

This lighthouse is in an awesome place, which provides awesome views! There are quite a bit of steps going up and down the hills, so make sure you are ready to walk, and climb. There is rich history to be had while visiting, in true museum form. Pictures, stories, artifacts, antiques, etc.. The stairs inside the accompanying house are pretty steep, and it get’s hot in there, but not a bad way to spend 3 or 4 hours in San Diego. May not be the best attraction for the elderly, but mine aren’t normal elderly..

It is so much fun when you can see a lighthouse up close and even more fun when you can go inside that is the way it is at Old Point Loma Lighthouse. Here you can go inside and see the living areas, the sitting area, the bedrooms and the kitchen. You can walk the spiral staircase and see both floors. The dwelling looked very comfortable but reading about all the duties of the lighthouse keeper who was on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with no vacations takes a bit away from being totally comfortable. The first lighting of the oil lamp was in 1855 and continued for 36 years. Another fun time away from the normal tourist attractions in San Diego.

Fun stop to a historic lighthouse which was build in 1855. But if history is not your thing, then come for the views. This is part of Carrillo National Monument and it is worth your time to stop by. The views are incredible! There is a bit of walking involved, and some areas have a bit of an incline, but it is doable.
