We loved stopping here and looking at the wonderful view of the Bay and the Ocean. Historic and beautiful.

When you walk in, the docent is to the left of the front door. He offered lots of insight to the life of the original caretakers of the lighthouse and how their family handled the isolation on the point. He knew the history well and was very entertaining.

Located on federal land within a military facility, these guys are serious about timing. Go during the day, as there's no entry or view at sunset/night.

Picturesque lighthouse at Point Loma is worth seeing. You can go up the stairway but not to the top. Still its interesting to see how they lived. The building next door has a great exhibit on the beacon itself. Building was flanked by a mass of yellow flowers in March. Absolutely lovely walk from the visitor's center.

Was visiting the beautiful Point Loma overlook, and the lighthouse was open. There were a lot of people trying to squeeze into not a lot of space, so that was a bit annoying. Very impressive features with the whole lighthouse furnished. Unfortunately, you can only view it from behind plexiglass. Very interesting to climb the stairs and see the bedrooms upstairs. The very top was closed, so I couldn't see all the way at the top. The adjacent assistant lighthouse keeper quarters were set up as a museum explaining the roles of lighthouses. Very informative and interesting. Overall, yet another aspect of Point Loma that is excellent and a great reason to visit.
