Located on federal land within a military facility, these guys are serious about timing. Go during the day, as there's no entry or view at sunset/night.

Picturesque lighthouse at Point Loma is worth seeing. You can go up the stairway but not to the top. Still its interesting to see how they lived. The building next door has a great exhibit on the beacon itself. Building was flanked by a mass of yellow flowers in March. Absolutely lovely walk from the visitor's center.

Was visiting the beautiful Point Loma overlook, and the lighthouse was open. There were a lot of people trying to squeeze into not a lot of space, so that was a bit annoying. Very impressive features with the whole lighthouse furnished. Unfortunately, you can only view it from behind plexiglass. Very interesting to climb the stairs and see the bedrooms upstairs. The very top was closed, so I couldn't see all the way at the top. The adjacent assistant lighthouse keeper quarters were set up as a museum explaining the roles of lighthouses. Very informative and interesting. Overall, yet another aspect of Point Loma that is excellent and a great reason to visit.

While very small the light house museum and light house were very interesting. We appreciated the way the rooms were set up to show how the caretaker and their family lived. As the 8th lighthouse built in the nation, I'm happy that we were able to experience it.

While the Point Loma lighthouse is rather small, she is lovingly cared for. We were glad the tower stairs were open and climbed up but were unable to walk around the outside of her light. But, that didn't spoil the trip. The old assistant keeper's house is now a little museum which is also very nicely done.
