“Don't waste your time and money”
Reviewed October 2, 2013 via mobile

I went here this morning with my husband for a change to the IHOP and I wish we hadn't wasted our money.

The staff plain didn't care and no one, even wen cashing us out, cracked a smile or asked us how our meal was and I suspect this speaks volumes.

As for the food? Awful. If you spend almost $6 on a smoothie you kindve expect it to be fresh fruit not a frozen mix. The Nutella crepes were blatantly pre made from a packet and microwaved as they were dry and chewy on the top and the Nutella was basically lava. The whole process also reduced the banana to mulch.

The husband had the French toast and thought that was pretty dire too. Skip this place and go to the IHOP just up the road. It was absolutely awful here.

“Huge menu range and fast wifi”
Reviewed September 14, 2013

We stumbled upon this restaurant on our first day, and have come back for six breakfasts in a row. Excellent food, service, and ambiance. High quality fresh fruit, excellent range of menu items, from traditional egg dishes, waffles, tacos, huevos rancheros, even gluten free pancakes. And fast wifi with no hassles. Recommended!

“Great breakfast spot - but parking is tricky”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

We thought this place was great! We went on a Sunday morning, so it took awhile to find parking (TINY lot, shared with a lot of other businesses - really, it's an accident waiting to happen), and there were a lot of people waiting, but it didn't take long to get a table, and everything moved along at a great pace after that. Had a disappointing waffle experience (they had recently changed their menu and no longer have "golden waffles' - the old timey skinny ones - just Belgian waffles), but I was really happy with the omelet I had instead with mushrooms, bacon, tomatoes, avocado in it. Just yummy. Hubby had machaca (hope that's how to spell it) and really liked it. Really, other than the parking (and the lack of golden waffles) this was a great choice for breakfast. I would definitely go back.

“Something's broken at this cafe”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

The former legendary Broken Yolk (BY) breakfast experience just isn't happening at this congested site in the Midway District of Point Loma. There were the usual parking and long wait hassles like at many Broken Yolks, which now include 11 stores. The main disappointments were that our "hot cakes" were not hot and the side dishes were insipid. Although the quality of their egg dishes and that fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice are still among the best, overall I think there's something broken in their formula here. What was once a great name in San Diego casual eating was described by my breakfast partner as "same as Denny's".

Formerly a nondescript "Brick Alley" sports bar, this BY location in the Midway District suffers from terrible traffic, congestion and lack of parking. A Saturday or Sunday summer weekend is a mistake to come here, especially if the nearby Swap Meet is in full swing. Bottom line: Try one of the 3 or 4 other BY stores in San Diego and arrive early, you'll be glad you did. Be sure the food brought to your table is 100% satisfactory or you should send it back. "The Monk" (that's me!) won't be coming to this BY again, but the other ones are probably still great.
