“Not for everyone, historic”
Reviewed June 28, 2014

This suspension footbridge was erected in 1912 and is less than a mile from Balboa Park. For me it was a moving and personal experience to revisit this for the first time in more than 60 years.

“Beautiful and historic”
Reviewed June 14, 2014

This is such a cool place to visit. Free, amazing, & picturesque! Parking was not an issue; plenty around the neighborhood, and it feels very safe. You can walk, across the bridge as many times as you would like. It does swing a bit, but not much. The architecture is also a sight to see.

I found a neighbor who was hosting a yard sale so that was an extra bonus. There isn't much to see outside of the area, but it doesn't hurt to walk around.

A Camera or camera phone is a must! ENjoy

“So awesome!”

This is such a cool bridge. It's very old and very high up. Don't visit if you are afraid of heights. The bridge shakes when you walk across it but it's not scary. You have no chance of falling if you just walk across and take pictures.

This is definitely off the beaten path, but still pretty cool to visit. It's an old footbridge, like really old, that swings...and can be a little frightening if you have a toddler, but it's still cool. I'm sure the people who live in this neighborhood (which is a cool neighborhood) are not overly amused by the bridge, but for those outsiders it's just a cool piece of local history...and usable history at that.

“Great off-the-beaten path visit!”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

~10-minute visit if you have the time to get side-tracked a bit. Originally thought it wouldn't fit our schedule, but at the end, we made the effort and it really made a good afternoon side trip.

Situated around a residential area, it was peaceful and two other groups were there visiting at the time. The first few steps may be a little daunting (esp for people afraid of heights), but it great to experience the openness and a free "mini-adventure". One father had swayed the bridge a bit (he had a young son with him). As long as you walk in the middle of the bridge, it should feel more stable.

The walk from one end to the other end was not long at all (I was doing a slow video and it took 4 minutes one-way).

*TIP*: Since you are around the neighborhood, check out Quince Street Bridge, which is very close by. I learned of this when I posted to the forum. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g60750-i41-k6576649-Spruce_Street_Footbridge-San_Diego_California.html
