When walking down 5th in the Gaslamp one could be overwhelmed by the sheer number of tourist trap restaurants and their outdoor hosts trying to lure bypassers inside. One place not to sidestep on this treck is Cafe 21. Very nicely appionted with a farmhouse meets city ambiance, they have indoor and outdoor seating for those looking to escape or be seen and see. What truly set this place apart though is the quality of the food and the service. Who does not like breakfast for breakfast, lunch and dinner? We visited for lunch and were warmly welcomed, expertly serviced in a timely manner for a business lunch and were extremely satisfied with a great meal and experience.

In a world that cares more about the experience than the product, Cafe 21 delivers. Be sure to say hi to the gregarious and charming GM, Jason. A man of many talents and many more responsibilities, he is as affable as they come and adds to the experience in his table side greets and well-wishes. Head in for a birthday and get ready for some serious attention!

Thank you and we will be back!

We booked a reservation here based on good Tripadvisor reviews. Breakfast was actually pretty tasty (tiramisu pancakes), but the highlight was their special take on loose tea - an individual sized bodom for each person, with a plethora of fun flavours to choose from.

Came for Sunday brunch and a mixed bag. Strawberry rhubarb pancakes were not as our server explained. No strawberries in the batter and not sure any in the topping. Had a few blueberries on the side which was not on the menu. They were stone cold and butter would not even melt. Server brought our check and then asked how things were. This was the first time we saw her since we got our food and they were not that busy. Turkey meatball omelette with fruit was hot and tasty. They gave us a whopping $2.88 discount which was a weird amount.

We happened upon this place while looking for breakfast. Boy did we luck out! Crepes, pancakes, great coffee-all delicious. Interesting & eclectic decor & relaxing music created a pleasantly serene start to the day. Great furnishings -the exact opposite of a chain restaurant. Delightful.

This cafe was recommended to us by Jose at Hotel Indigo. I had the chicken crepes and loved the swirl of favors (chicken, cheese, thin crepes with apricot and some raspberry sauces) . We also tried the flourless chocolate cake (heavenly) and if you are looking for an interesting cocktail try the cucumber Moscow mule.
