Everything was amazing! This was an experience of a lifetime. The accommodations, crew, food, diving instruction, and most importantly, the sharks, were incredible. I didn't have much of an interest in sharks before this, but I ended up going with a family member who is. The experience has changed my view of these wonderful creatures, and it was an incredible experience to see them in their own habitat. It was also fun to watch them from aboard the boat. They look like torpedoes in the water. The island was beautiful and provided a great backdrop for where we anchored for the trip. Lastly, the food was awesome. It felt like eating at a 5-star restaurant.
Great white cage diving at Guadalupe island ! Amazing experience with an awesome charter company. I was nervous at first, and I pestered Juliet at their office for months ahead of the trip. Endless questions She patiently walked me through every aspect of the trip and helped me with all the arrangements... she made me feel completely at ease
Captain John and the crew never treat you like a tourist. They make you feel like you’re one of them. All safety and equipment is explained completely no matter how in-experienced you feel And the great whites! Saw quantities of huge sharks each time in the cage After the first day, lots of people skip their shift to take a break... so you can pretty much be in the cage all day if you want And they limit the number on the trip so it all feels real personal. Also left the trip having made great friends with other guests.
There is no other boat like the islander
If you want to be pampered like a wealthy observer... choose a different boat. If you want the experience of a lifetime, where you actually feel like you’re a real part of
Shark research and science crew... choose the islander
I’m already saving for next year!

Everything about this operator and this particular trip is excellent. The captain/owner and the crew are extremely friendly and so accommodating, the food is prepared from scratch for every meal, and the accommodations are clean and safe. The crew is at your service from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for the non-stop shark dives which include getting you safely in and out of the cage all day and non-stop-tuna-head-on-a-rope tossing to bring in the sharks. sharks. 16 divers total, alternating shifts of 8 divers every other hour. As long as even one diver wanted to keep diving until dark, the crew stayed on duty. This is such a great experience that I just signed up for my 4th year in a row!
DREAM SHARK TRIP!
I have been wanting to cage dive with Great White Sharks ever since I was a little kid - it was my #1 bucket list experience and the Islander Charters Trip at Guadeloupe Island was the best experience EVER! I traveled across country solo not knowing anyone on the boat and the whole crew instantly made me feel very comfortable. I met some awesome people that I still keep in touch with! I guess crazy shark people bond easy with one another. Lol
First off the whole crew needs a big shoot out for how amazing they are! You aren’t just on the boat as a “tourist” with a crew who takes you out hoping to see sharks. Jimi Partington has been on Shark Week several times and is an expert on Great Whites. He was extremely personable and it was great to ask him questions. A lot of the other crew members are master divers and marine biologists. People who really know a lot about sharks and their behavior. All of these guys worked their butts off and were very knowledgeable, friendly, and knew what they were doing.
The food - it was amazing!! We ate fresh yellowfin tuna steaks, had a Mexican night... the food was awesome and no matter how picky you are Jake the chef will hook you up with something delicious. He has a real talent in the galley!
The sharks were everything I had hoped for and MORE! We saw about 20-25 different sharks during our 3 days of diving including the infamous mega shark Bullet! Whether you are in the cage or topside there was always action. Multiple sharks in the water most of the time and they would get CLOSE to the cage.
Some tips for the trip would be to get the patch for motion sickness! It was a lifesaver on the trip as the boat ride out is very long. Take motion sickness precautions so you don’t have a miserable ride out and back. 20 hours is a long time to be sick. The water at Guadeloupe is calm though.
I can’t wait to return to Guadeloupe Island and will always book with Islander Charters. If your considering another company - don’t. This is by far the best crew on the water.
WOW! From the very first moment we boarded the bus in San Diego, I knew we were in for something special. The Islander crew met us with breakfast goodies and refreshments. We met our fellow travelers and made instant connections over our love for sharks. I could honestly talk you through every moment because they were all memorable, but I want to focus on the 3 areas that stood out the most:
1. The Crew: I am a believer in treating yourself on vacation, so I expect a high level of service. This crew could give any 5-star resort a run for their money. The crew is kind, caring, and knowledgeable. When I wasn't feeling my sea legs yet, they were compassionate and helpful. No matter the day or the need, there were multiple people available to help and answer questions at any moment. Truly the most service-oriented crew I have ever met.
2. The Food: I expected decent food on the trip because it was listed as a highlight on the website, but it was BETTER than many restaurants I frequent back home. The chef is incredibly talented. My husband even ate a salad with avocado (which he hates) because it was so tasty. The food is not only delicious, but we were served a variety of different dishes and items. There was always food and drinks available and the presentation was spectacular. Honestly, I have been missing the food ever since I got home.
3. SHARKS: From the moment we anchored off Guadalupe Island, there were sharks. The sharks were magnificent. They were huge and beautiful. So much grace and strength in a creature that is so typically regarded as a monster. There were no monsters here. Just magnificent beasts that truly made me feel blessed to be in their world. We saw sharks every hour of the day for the 3 days we were there. All different sharks with different personalities and attitudes. I was amazed at how much time everyone got to be in the cages and witnessing this epic world. If you are a lover of sharks (as I am) you MUST do this trip.
It truly was the experience of a lifetime and life-changing in many ways. I can't possibly put into words what the trip meant to me. What I can say is we are already talking about going again next year and can't wait to see our Islander family again.
I can’t recommend Islander Charters enough for anyone who wants to go cage diving at Guadalupe Island. They definitely did everything in their power to make sure I had the best trip possible. I found them through Jimi Partington's company (Shark Diving Xperts) and he helped me plan out the trip and Juliet with Islander charters helped me book it. The trip was amazing. The boat was great, the sharks were incredible and they even have a hot tub on the boat for after you’re done in the cage. The crew of the Islander did everything in their power to make sure everyone had the best trip that they could. You definitely won't go wrong picking Islander Charters for going cage diving at Guadalupe Island.
Here is a few recommendaitons:
1. Bring sea sickness medicine. Dramamine at least. The sea sickness patches the require a prescription. The trip to and from the island is a 20 hour trip in open ocean and the seas can be rough. Once you get to the island, the waters are smooth and you should be fine.
2. Bring biodegradable sunscreen and apply it often if you are going to spend a lot of time on deck. The sun can be pretty brutal.
3. Don't think too much about what to bring with you. You will spend most of the time in your wet suit or in the cage, so you won't need a whole lot of clothes. At most you will need: a swim suit, a few shirts to wear on deck when not in the cage (it's best to pull your wet suit half the way down and put on a shirt in between cage times), a gopro or other underwater camera, and a flash drive or computer to share pictures.
