I eat lunch here regularly. Very good ramen and a comfortable atmosphere. Competition is heating up for Ramen in Clairemont but these guys are still in the top 3-4 for a good bowl of noodles at lunch. Had Yakitori for the first time on 4/6. Wonderful with great variety of yakitori and sashimi specials. If you are looking up online use care, it's easy to confuse this restaurant's phone number with the sister restaurant, Hinotez. Also a great restaurant but with less Yakitori variety.

If you like ramen don't waste your time searching anywhere else. This is the spot. Shoyou ramen, large sake, gyoza, all for under 20 bucks you get your moneys worth.

Coming from north of SD, this ramen joint was crowded, and with familiar yellow faces (i'm asian too), so it was a good sign that the food was likely authentic...coming with my cousin (a ucsd student), she recommended this place here. I had the special and it was pretty decent. While it didn't taste as good as daikokuya in LA, for SD, it was definitely flavorful and on point. The gyoza was good as well. Also, there is one pretty hapa waitress that deserves your attention (guys).

I went with my Japanese friend, and we loved the retro Showa atmosphere, considering it being next to a Starbucks. Had a feeling of a rural diner, 40 years ago. The ramen and yakitori is quite good. I don't understand why they have to serve green tea out of a can...

We have lived in Japan for many, many years and going to a ramen shop had been a weekly or twice weekly experience. Shoyu and shio ramen have been favorites together with a plate of gyoza and it took us a while to finally find the taste and texture of the ramen that we have been looking for. Yakyudori is now one of our favorite restaurants and everytime we eat here, it takes us back to Japan, even for that moment. From the Japanese servers and cooks, the tables/chairs, the counter around the cooking area, the decor, and of course the ramen noodles!! We love coming here and the added bonus is being able to practice with the staff our limited Nihongo. It's a popular place and can get quite crowded with a waiting list. But they do accept reservations so you might want to do that if you're planning to go especially during lunch and dinner hours.
