“Good unpretentious seafood”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2013

This is not an upscale place but it's fresh seafood is very good. Order at the counter and they deliver to your table. Service was friendly and fast. I plan on going to the oyster on the half shell night special on Thursdays. The only thing that I found less than satisfactory is that their salmon was farmed not wild. I won't eat that farmed salmon. They have to put food coloring in it to make it look palatable. I will not get into the health and environmental reasons.

“Fantastic Fish”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2013

This place has great fish. You pick your fish, your glaze or style of cooking, and whether you want it as a sandwich, plate, or salad. Super fresh fish, perfect preparation. This place compares to the Fish Market chain but it's more casual. The prices are moderate --- not cheap! Patio and indoor dining, beer and wine, it's one of my new faves in San Diego. Our only complaint was a bar top we were eating off that was dirty and sticky; waitstaff blamed it on the paint or whatever. It definitely needed cleaning (as evidenced by the wet napkin my companion dragged across it) and if the finish is a problem, REFINISH IT!

“Always on my Must List”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2013

I visit my daughter in La Jolla 4-5 times a year. The Pacific Beach fish house is always on my list of dine-out must-dos.
It's not cheap, but not really outrageous either. What does one expect for fresh fish in a Southern California beach area?
If you're looking for fine dining by candlelight, with ocean views and great fish... go north to La Jolla and spend fifty bucks or more per person. If you just want a great fish dinner in a casual but lively atmosphere for a reasonable price... this is the spot.

“This is a fish shop, with fast food quality.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2013

Expensive, small picnic table and sports bar atmosphere with long lines-music and noise level very looud!! The beer seems to be better than the food. Staff is friendly, service can be slow and fresh is very questionable. Tacos and beer seem to be about the only winners here. I had fresh local halibut and salmon, both were overcooked, very dry (frozen texture) and even with the marinade seemed rather tasteless. Way better places to eat fresh fish along the way to the end of this road mi amigo! Keep going!

“Fresh fish, big salads, what could be missing?”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2013

Some of the most awesome, fresh, gorgeous filets . . .of salmon, local caught halibut, ahi tuna, yellowtail, red snapper are lined up in a colorful display at the deli-style counter where diners come to order their food. There is a line, partly I think, because they picked the slowest person on the staff to work at the register taking orders.
Outside the oyster bar is fast and furiously shucking oysters and you can choose your origin of oyster : British Columbia, Washington, e.g.
However, I find I a busy restaurant with a little waiting to be encouraging. It means people want to go there because it's good. Here you get to pick your marinade (lots to choose from) pick a serving style: on a plate with rice, in a sandwich, your fish floating in one of their gigantic fresh mesclun green salads. But there was little or no marinade, on either of our orders. There was no bleu cheese dressing on my salad.
The fish, while freshly caught, was overcooked and dry. the grill marks tasted of lighter fluid. It really could have used a marinade. There are however an interesting cross section of eclectic patrons, nice outdoor dining but tables are free-for-all, you might find yourself sitting across from two strangers who grabbed some open seats. Cole slaw strangely flavored but good. I think they must have better nights/or cooks/or order takers but we happened to be there when they took some really good fish and made it mediocre. Next time I'm going for raw oysters and some of their homemade fries and leave the griller/marinaders alone.
