Quality Inn San Diego Downtown North

I spent 4 nights here on a quick San Diego getaway with a friend. We picked this hotel for the price primarily and the location secondarily.

The price really cannot be beat. The location is great; for those driving from any of the rental agencies at the airport, it is about 5 minutes when no traffic. I was able to drive anywhere I went in San Diego in under 10 minutes (zoo, Coronado, Gaslamp District). The onramp to the I-5, which gets you just about anyplace else, is only a couple blocks away.

The rooms are adquate. They seem dated, but not dirty. There is a room with shower/toilet and the sink is in the main sleeping area. The linens were clean, but there was a mold smell in my sink. That was my only complaint with the room. I slept well in the bed and was not terribly bothered by sleeping with the windows open at night.

Re: outside noise...as others have mentioned this hotel is on the landing path of the airport. If you stand on the roof you could probably hit the planes by tossing tennis balls at them easily, they are about 10 seconds from landing when they pass over. But, the plane traffic stops around 11-11:30 at night and I didn't hear much before 6 a.m. This hotel also seems to attract nightlight/party lovers, who come in late and are loud. That happened two nights. But otherwise, I heard no traffic noise outside.

There is no parking lot but that said, we had no problem finding an on-street space any night when we returned after 6 p.m. (when you no longer have to feed the parking meters).

Yes, breakfast is included but it left a lot to be desired. We ate elsewhere the second two days because it sort of felt like a hostel.

I'd stay here again if cutting costs was the only way I'd get to San Diego. It wasn't horrible, but not the best hotel experience I've had.

This hotel is centrally located near Old Town and the Gas Lamp districts. About 1 /1/2 miles from the airport. It is a budget hotel which is great for people who just need a clean room and comfy bed, but are out sightseeing all day. No frills, but clean and adequate. Staff is friendly and helpful. There is a fair bit of noise from the street and late returning guests. With a downtown airport, the landing planes are so close it is disconcerting--but they stop fairly early each night. The continental breakfast is very, very basic--cereal, prepackaged danish, juice, coffee, bagels & toast. Skip it and head to Broken Yolk for a filling and reasonable breakfast.

Room Tip: If noise is an issue, ask for a room away from the street.

This jewel of a hotel is located minutes to the heart of San Diego America's Finest City and within walking distance of Balboa Park, a jewel of entertainment. The Staff goes overboard to accommodate your every need. A lovely breakfast is included. Each room has a kitchenette with fridge and microwave. Gym downstairs, beautiful courtyard with lush flowers and fountains. A business center and on site laundry. Wonderful stay!

I just have to say how kind and helpful the front desk staff are at this place. We needed to catch a cab to get to a dinner reservation but the taxi phone lines were busy. The guy working the front desk had just ended his shift, and offered to drive us. Gave us a ride on the house and kept us entertained the whole time, thanks Bobby! We'll definitely be staying here again, great great value and very hospitable staff.

stayed just one night on 2-28-12..booked online directly with them about 1 month in advance. Had problem finding me system at first, but with conf # jumped right to it
the room I had seemed a little small, it is basically a small bedroom with an attached bathroom and walk-in closet, where there is an under counter fridge, microwave and coffee maker
Bathroom sink is really a bar sink with garbage disposal, very unusual but 100% functional
The desk staff is friendly and very helpful, pointing me in the right direction to Little Italy and good food
This place is no $500 a night hotel...it is exactly what it claims to be...a good bargain, with free wifi and a continental breakfast....I felt safe and slept soundly while there...I'll be back if ever in the area again

Room Tip: there are 2 buildings, ask for the main with courtyard if possible

This is a good choice if you are looking for an inexpensive hotel option in the downtown area of San Diego that is easy to walk to.

You are only 8 min walk to the trolley, and the bus stops one block from the hotel going downtown and three block on fifth ave if you are going to the Hillcrest area.

The hotel is built around an open courtyard with external outside entrances to the rooms. You can hear and see the airlines landing on Rwy 27 at San Diego international just over this hotel, so putting your room fan on at night will create white noise so you can sleep.

The rooms are on the small size, but well laid out. The breakfast is from 7-10 and is basic with pastries, fruit, cereals, tea, coffee, juice and milk.

Internet is available via wi fi, and there is a machine in the lobby for those with out a computer. However there is a better option of using Kinkos downtown on C street for access and much cheaper.

Good value for sure, and an easy walking hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher room for less noise from higher rooms, it was a good choice for my stay.
