“Second time staying here, and I knew the rooms were small...”
Reviewed May 6, 2014

Second time staying here, and I knew the rooms were small, but the hotel is in a great location. My only complaint, one I possibly could have gotten fixed, was it was put in a room at the back of the hotel with absolutely no view. The restaurant, Brian's 24, rocks!! I would stay there again.

Stayed here for 4 nights in April for a business trip. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in & there was Premier League football on the TV in my room, which was a bonus for some early morning viewing!

For $200+ per night! the rooms are quite dated and small. Furthermore, the rooftop terrace advertised on the booking website was closed for refurbishing. Due to the old nature of the hotel - the plaque out the front informs you that it was the tallest building in San Diego when built in 1914, and the original lifts are still in use (frustratingly slow) - there are a few quirks unfamiliar to the regular visitor to modern hotels. However, I was happy with my stay, especially the friendliness & helpfulness of the staff.

If you are a light sleeper, this hotel may not be for you - earplugs are supplied by the hotel as the constant buzz of the aircon units attached to each room are very loud. It took me a couple of nights to get used to this but regardless, if the price was right, I think I would stay in this hotel again.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for the review. All our mattresses are Sealy Serta Sleepers , very comfortable. The roof was closed for new carpet and repair but is now open once again for all guests to enjoy. We hope to see you again.

The hotel was built in the early 1900s and it shows. Although, it is located within walking distance of everything. I was there for 2 days of business & 2 days of relaxation. I walked to the Convention Center in the morning and on the way back saw a baseball game at Petco Field. There are places to eat & drink around every corner of the hotel. Plus, the Horton Plaza is maybe 3 blocks away. It was only a 10 minute ride by shuttle to and from the airport.

My room was not large by any standard. But, it was clean and the Staff was very helpful. If one is looking for a luxury boutique hotel, this is not the place. If one is looking for a place centrally located in the Gaslamp Quarter at a reasonable price, consider this hotel.

Room Tip: If one is a light sleeper, consider requesting a room away from the street & one of the upper fl...

Dear Guest, Thank you for the kind words . The staff reads every review and strives to make each stay a good one . We are a "green certified hotel " so we employ many energy saving programs beyond simple recycling (which actually pays for our Christmas party each year.) We hope to see you again in the very near future.

Dear Guest, We are sorry the hotel did not meet your expectations . Being 30 years in the hotel business I can't ever remember being in a hotel room without a window . Sorry again for your disappointment
