“Its an historical building”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

Remember this is an historical building. The lifts are small, the rooms are quirky but its full of character and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The staff helped us with our bags to and from the car and assisted with directions and restaurant recommendations. Would stay here again. Great view to Coronado Bridge from our room on the 8th floor

Dear Valued guest , Thank you for your nice comments and taking the time to pen them . We do have a great little hotel in a wonderful location with a caring staff and a great restaurant. On the other side the rooms are small and the "lift" is getting on in years. . Thanks for your business and for your support. We hope to see you again.

My wife and I stayed here mid week. The price is fair. If you want to be in the heart of it all, this Ramada would be OK, for maybe one night, two tops. As advertised, the rooms are super small. The bathroom was very small. It's an old build and there isn't much they can do to make the rooms larger. Our room was not good for more than 2 people. I think it's too small for a family. The small old elevator was cute as long as you didn't have luggage. Alone, with luggage, then the old elevator would be a hassle. The bathroom light has an automatic on/off switch. That was a pain. Old window AC unit. There is a $20.00 per day parking fee, as advertised. The front desk person was very nice & extra helpful. The parking person we had could care less to help a lady with her luggage. His tip reflected the lack of service. We were able to walk to many fine restaurants and that was the only reason we stayed at this location. I would expect the weekends to be very noisy. The in room internet didn't work for me, had to go to the front lobby area for signal from Brian's 24. The roof top view is very nice. When in San Diego again, I will not stay here again.

Room Tip: Our room had absolutely no view. One window looked at the back alley. One window looked at the lower...

Dear guest, It's true many of our rooms are about 25% smaller than a traditional hotel room. Although we do have quite a few larger rooms but to see them you must visit the hotel's web site link right here on TripAdvisor. As for our $20 parking fee it's the lowest fee of any hotel downtown and only cover our garage parking costs . I'll see that the parking valets read your review . A little cheerfulness and good service would certainly improve their fortunes. Thank you again for your impute and for your business.

Central location in the Gaslamp section made it convenient to great restaurants and to the convention center and ballpark where all the Rock n Roll Marathon activities were.

I've used the Hotel St James every time I've stayed in San Diego and have never had anything less than flawless service. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking to visit the Gaslamp, the location is excellent and has the bonus prize of Brians 24 next door which serves the best chilli cheese fries in San Diego.

Loved the old nostalgic elevators, goodies left on the bed for us, knowledgeable staff, great, not great, but fantastic restaurant next door. Will definitely come back.

We stayed two nights. The location is excellent, right in the middle of the Gas Light District. Close to everything. $20 a night to park your car, but once there, don't need it. Lobby is beautiful. Rooms are small, clean and adequate. Window a/c a little noisy. Reminds me of many hotels we've stayed in Paris. I like it because of the charm you don't get in big name hotels

Dear Guest,
Thank you for the kind words and for your support. We often quote our room size as "Paris size" .We're glad you enjoyed your stay . P.S. our parking rate are the lowest downtown, most hotels are way over $30 per night . We hope to see you again .
