I just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel. If you're like me and spend very little time in your hotel room when you travel you will like this hotel but if you are a hotel snob this is not the hotel for you.

PRO's: Location, Location, Location! Everything is in walking distance to this hotel. You are right in the middle of bars, lounges, restaurants, convenient store, public transportation. Coming in town as a tourist I couldn't have picked a better hotel. The courtesy airport shuttle is very rare to find these days so it was greatly appreciated. The antique elevator & rooftop.

CON's: Strange noises and a very tiny room with limited vanity space.

I enjoyed my stay the hotel staff outweighed any negativity we faced while staying. Again, I can't stress the convenience this hotel offered it's literally in the middle of everything. I'm rating it very good solely based on location.

Stayed here for a night with a group of friends. Yes the hotel is older than most, and the rooms are small...but the retro feel is a nice change from most chain hotels. The rooftop deck is amazing and really made our trip one to remember. You can go up there with your drinks and food to enjoy a cheap meal before hitting the town.

The rooms are quite small. If you are going there to hang out in the city for a night it doesn't really matter though does it?

I wouldn't recommend this hotel for families that are staying with kids for multiple nights. But if you are just hanging with adults to enjoy a couple nights out on the town...this is your spot.

Great price and hotel staff was super accommodating. Elevators are old and pretty slow, but the stairs are carpeted and a nice detour if you don't feel like waiting.

We were very pleased with this hotel. We got a great rate through their own website. On arrival at the airport we called their freephone number for a free shuttle pick up. We didn't have to wait too long and a very friendly member of staff met us. Great service to offer guests. All staff we encountered at the front desk were very helpful and always friendly. The room was good, clean and comfortable. We were on the 8th floor so got a bit of a view which was nice. Our stay covered a Friday night and the noise outside wasn't too bad. You could hear some noise but nothing to be concerned about when you know you are staying in a downtown hotel in a popular area for nightlife! Facilities in the room were good - good size tv, good free wifi, in room safe, iron and board, hair dryer, good selection of toiletries and even some water in room (to buy but very reasonable price).

I can't believe how many reviews on here are complaining about the size of the rooms. We were 2 adults in a standard queen room with 3 large suitcases and had no problem. Yes there is no closet but there was space to have all of our cases beside the hanging space and they were not in the way of us walking around the room. Most American hotel rooms are huge. The hotels that have these huge rooms people have become used to are generally in newer buildings. This hotel is in a building that it over 100 years old when rooms were smaller - what a shame that they didn't design it to meet the standard people expect in 2013!!! The rooms are smaller than what you may be used to - this is NOT a big deal. If it is a big deal to you and you want a room the size of a european apartment stay in another hotel!!!

Another common complaint was about the elevator. Is it slow? Yes, a little. Does it matter? Not really. If it bothers you that much request a room on a lower floor and use the stairs. I also don't think it is valid for people to complain about the speed of the elevator and any possible outside noise as the hotel is very upfront about its location and their historic elevator, therefore guests should have read these details before booking.

We loved the rooftop terrace - amazing!!! A great place to escape to and relax. Some mornings we grabbed some coffee and bagels from Starbucks and headed up here to enjoy! Such a great view. Also a good view of Petco Park on game night!

We had a rental car for a few days and used the valet. $20 per night with in and our priveledges - really good price. Yes your car is parked 2 blocks away but we found the service speedy - apart from when we checked out at the same time as everybody else, but that is to be expected when using any service at peak periods.

There is only one thing that irritated me during our stay and that was the room lights. They seem to be on a movement sensor and every night they seemed to come on automatically throughout the night. Perhaps there was a switch that would have turned off the sensor motion but it didn't annoy me enough to go and ask front desk about it (I'm sure they would have been helpful in sorting out the problem)...or maybe it was a ghost!haha

So....should you stay at this hotel....YES!

P.S you must try Cafe 222 for breakfast (about 5 min walk away on Island Avenue) - amazing peanut butter and banana french toast - you must try it!!!
