“Not up to Westins usual high standards”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

Upon check in we were notified by the bell staff that the rooms were newly remodeled. We were staying in a suite and everything was tan, including the walls, carpets, couch and pillows and drapes with very few pictures on the walls. The furniture looked more like something out of a Holiday Inn than a Westin. The bell staff was very good but not sure would ever stay at this Westin for the high price. The water pipes made noise sounding like someone was dragging furniture above our room, day and night. We always stay at Westins, not very happy with this one

Joannethev –

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on Trip Advisor. I will personally follow up with our team in regards to the noise from the water pipes. The modern room design is focused on a neutral color palette, energizing textures, natural wood and stone accents. The new modern look reflects a simple, refined style that provides guests with a sense of balance. Our rooms come accented with the signature Heavenly Bed and the NEW Heavenly Rain Shower. Additionally the guest room features include custom closets and reading lights, Heavenly Mirrors, instant plug ‘n play technology, and multi-use custom Westin designed accent tables that can be used as a working area or an in-room dining table.

We always strive to provide excellent customer service to every guest, so I am pleased to hear that our bell staff was a highlight to your stay and was able to meet all of your expectations. I hope you will give us another try in the future.

Kind regards,

Keri Robinson

Stayed 4 nights. Booked the hotel due to location and we are Starwood members. Rooms were spacious and clean, very comfy beds. Loved the location - close to restaurants on 5th Street (great recommendations from concierge), short walk to the ballpark and Seaport district. Homeless people around? Sure, but they never bothered us or our children. It's a fact of life, particularly when visiting a city. Valet staff was great - offered us bottled water whenever we headed off for the day. Pool was very small and only got afternoon sun. Our only complaint was that we had to call housekeeping 3 times on our last night to request towels. (Our son had been sick the night before and was in bed all day, so we skipped housekeeping that day.) Overall, pleased with this hotel and would stay here again.

Dear soxfan63

Glad to know that overall you enjoyed your stay, the service you received from the valet staff, and the amenities the hotel has to offer. Our location is definitely outstanding, and our concierge team excels when it comes to making just the right recommendations on how to make the most of your stay. We would love the opportunity to welcome you back on your next trip to the West Coast!

We've been to San Diego four times in the last four years. Each time we've stayed at a different hotel, usually one closer to the convention center. This year we decided to try the Westin Gaslamp at Horton Plaza. It was a great decision! We were far enough away from the trains so that we could sleep at night but still conveniently located. The concierge, Julianne, really made our trip perfect. Each morning we would stop by the concierge desk and she would help us plan our day, give us discounts to restaurants she recommended (all fantastic!), reserve our rental car and even lend us a stroller to get the our little ones to and from all of our activities! The hotel really is conveniently located. It's in the heart of the Gaslamp and located right next to a mall. There is even a Ralph's Grocery store just around the corner for any last minute items you might need to pick up. Highly recommend!

Dear TxMom2013

Thanks for giving us a try this year! From your review, I can see why you felt it was a great decision and I was especially pleased to read that Julianne had such an impact on making your trip a memorable one. I will be sure she gets a copy of your comments. Our staff is one of our greatest assets and it is very rewarding when we hear how much our guests enjoyed their stay.

You mentioned trying different places each year but we’d love the opportunity to welcome you back again next year!

Very nice hotel and a great location. Very close to the Gaslamp Quarter so there are plenty of options for food and drink, it's also connected to a shopping mall. As with anywhere in San Diego, there are plenty of bums in the area. The hotel itself was very nice and recently updated, there was still some construction finishing up during my stay (no noise concerns). The room was nicely finished and clean, and the bathroom was decent sized and modern. My only complaint would be the limited counter space and we had trouble getting wi-fi to work. The pool is nice and provided views of downtown.

This is a fine hotel with comfortable beds and clean rooms. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Adjacent to the San Diego Federal Court complex and to the State Court complex. Easy walking distance to the Gaslamp area and lots of restaurants, bars, shops and taverns.

Also, if you are a runner, you can run to the Seaside Village area along the water by turning left out of the hotel, then going left on Front Street, then left on Market Street, then right on 4th Ave, then left just before the train tracks until you get to Petco stadium. Then you go across the little bridge on your right and you are at the waterfront area which has a great running path. It's only about one mile from the hotel. San Diego is a great city and you'll be pleased with this hotel to enjoy San Diego.

We rode the Amtrak train from Irvine to San Diego. This is a wonderful getaway weekend trip! I would highly recommend this for a Anniversary date, or as a trip with friends. We have done both of these trips and have loved all three trips. You are just a few blocks from the train and walking distance to all of the great restaurants. We easily walked to shopping, we toured the USS Midway, took the ferry to Coronado Island, ate lunch at the Hotel Del, came back across the ferry. For dinner we went to Osetra's and then to Shout for drinks and entertainment. We had a wonderful time. We will do this trip more often! There is so much to see and so many things to do within walking distance df the train!. Have a great time!

Room Tip: A room with a view is always best!

What an excellent idea to take the train! We are very fortunate that our location is not only close to the Amtrak station but just 3 miles from the airport too. And as you said, once you arrive there’s so much to do in and around the hotel without the need of a car. I was thrilled to read that this is your third trip and that you chose the Westin Gaslamp Quarter each time – especially for your anniversary celebration! I hope during one of your stays you’ve had a chance to try Pinzimini. Our Italian themed restaurant offers a variety of delicious and very creative dishes and is something not to be missed.

We look forward to welcoming you back on trip number 4!

The view of the city was great. 10 min from sea world and very helpful with the bags after a long drive. 30+ for valet parking. Worth every penny. They gave us water and helped us up to our room. Loved the mall right next door. The pool was small but the work out room was better then my gym. We will be back......
