“Great hotel, extremely helpful!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2012

I recently stayed at the Westin Gaslamp for Comic-Con and was very impressed by the helpfulness of the staff, the appearance of the property, and the comfort of the hotel. I traveled with a medical condition and they were very helpful with making sure I had everything I needed to make my stay enjoyable.

The room was bright and big (we had two double beds) and the refrigerator was a nice thing to have, especially with Ralph's Grocery being only a block or so away. Everything as comfortable and clean. After being at the convention the whole day, it was nice to come back to the room and relax (Heavenly beds are just wonderful)! The only complaints I had were the internet was a bit pricey and even to use the business center you were charged and when there was only one available person at the check-in desk, Starwood Members were jumping in front of folks who had been waiting (and I am a Starwood member and I waited in line rather than butting in front of others).

We even had some of the food (the chocolate molten cake, the minestrone soup, and the pizza) and it was very good.

The location was great and very convenient. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a great hotel.

(I must commend Maria (at check-in), Mitch (group reservations), and Robin (group reservations) for their exemplary service. This hotel is precisely what I expected of a Westin property.

Thank you for your detailed review of the Westin Gaslamp Quarter. I am happy to read you enjoyed your experience and look forward to welcoming you back in the future. I am disappointed to read one of the benefits of an SPG members was more of a dissatisfier for you. We do our best to recognize all our guests, however, pride ourselves on the recognition to our loyal Starwood members.

Thank you for personally recognizing the efforts and exemplary service of Maria, Mitch and Robin. I will be sure to share your feedback with them personally.

Some friends from back home were here visiting. We decided to get a room here so that we could have a proper girls' weekend and no one would have to drive back to my house in East County. The service was incredible, the pool was great to lounge by during the day (there was live entertainment that was very good), and the bartender, Mark D gave us great tips on where to go out for fun at night. He was spot on for our group with his recommendations! The beds were amazing and the views weren't bad at all. Every employee we came into contact with was super helpful and very kind. The late night lasagne was impressive from room service...I was thinking it was an odd choice by my friends, but we were pleasantly surprised!!!

The Westin Gaslamp Quarter is a downtown business hotel one block from the famous San Diego Gaslamp district. There are LOTS of good restaurants in the area, as well as an outdoor shopping mall. The hotel is recently (<4 years) renovated and has a new three-meal restaurant. This is a solid value, near great, or at least interesting, dining. PET FRIENDLY

Thank you for sharing your feedback from your recent stay at the Westin Gaslamp Quarter with Trip Advisor. I am pleased to read you enjoyed the location and renovations that have been recently completed. Pinzimini restaurant and bar continue to do very well and we are hearing from our guests that they really enjoy the food and atmosphere.
Thank you for also pointing out that we are pet friendly! All Westin brand hotels support dog friendly travelers. We have an entire dog program set up to ensure the pet enjoys their stay as much as their owners.

Thank you again for your review. We look forward to welcoming you back should your travels allow.

Sincerely,

We recently stayed here for Comic con convention. Check in was very swift and clerk was very polite. Rooms were on 14th floor with a view of the city. They were clean and spacious. Although we spent most of our time at the convention we loved our stay. Hotel is conveniently located to mall, lots of restaurants, convention center etc. The downfall is the outrageous amount they charge for valet parking. :/ .

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on Trip Advisor. We appreciate the feedback and I am glad to read you enjoyed your overall experience. I am sorry you found the valet parking prices to be outrageous. Due to our location and available parking facilities, valet parking is our only option. Our pricing in competitive within the downtown area, as parking ranges from $34-42/night.

Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to see you next year with the Comic Con convention.

Be Well,

I stayed at the Westin during Comic-Con 2012 and it was a great hotel. When we first walked in we were about 3-4 hours early for our checkin but the woman at the front Tiffany was able to not only check us in extremely early but also was able to move our room up from the 4th floor to the 12th.
The room was good, nothing really set it aside from any other hotel other than the mini fridge they have in the rooms for guests own food/drinks.
The hotel is a short 8-12 min walk down to the convention center which we did in the mornings and at night the shuttles dropped us off basically at the front door which was great.
The hotel is located near a bunch of outdoor shops which was convenient for running out and grabbing food for in the room.
At night we would go to the hotel bar and have a few drinks which were priced the same as other bars. Michelle at the bar was regularly our server and quickly made us feel welcome. She remembered our 'usual' drinks which also showed she cared.
The hotel gives $5 coupons for hotel restaurants for not having your rooms towels and bedding changed each day and we took advantage of that. The last night at the Westin we used our credits for the hotel restaurant. While dining (the food was decent), Michelle from the bar brought us a dish on the house that must have costed a bit of money normally for it was meats and cheeses as well as other items. It was really the icing on the cake for us.

Bottom line is that although the hotel is nice but not extremely above average, it's the staff that the Westin employs that really sets it apart from the rest.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with Trip Advisor. I am pleased to read you enjoy the property and it's location but most importantly the service. Thank you for recognizing Michelle personally and I will be sure to share your comments with her as well. She does a great job for us in whatever capacity she is needed.

We hope to see you again next year with the Comic Con convention or sooner, should your travels allow.

It is nice to get off of a long flight and get good service from a staff that wants to help. That has not always been the case many years ago. My stay was a 4 star. What more can say. Steve Elisberg

Room Tip: It was fogged in. Ask the staff though I was on 2nd Street and you could hear a pin drop on carpet.
