A nice little retreat tucked away in San Diego, relaxing environment with a serene setting. Family friendly and couple friendly. Staff friendly and accommodating upon your arrival. Any issues are resolved promptly and you are ensured to be content.

We came here for a conference and were really looking foreward to a great experience. It was disappointing because the place was a little ripe, a place that peaked years ago. While the landscaping was beautiful and mature as you'd expect, the rooms were just OK. Our bathroom had a weird layout and little repairs as an older place gets.
What really pissed us off was that the carpets in Valencia , were Old and filthy, really. After we complained about the carpets , they didn't vacuum them. We walked by some wine glasses put outside of a room downstairs for THREE days!
The staff is very nice, friendly and helpful. Nice weather here.
I would try another hotel, and not recommend this place . My wife says my review is too generous.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

RBINN, General Manager at Rancho Bernardo Inn, responded to this reviewResponded November 11, 2013

Dear Recent Guest, I sincerely apologize for the condition of the carpets in the room and corridors. The Inn is in progress of having each guest bathroom fully renovated and as well as new paint, carpet and duvets in each bedroom. We are renovating approximately 10 rooms at a time and anticipate completion mid-next year. We are also recarpeting the exterior corridors for a more fresh look. I appreciate your feedback and will address them with the appropriate Managers. I do hope that you will try RBInn again so that we can make a memory for you.

Best Regards,
John Gates
General Manager

If you're a golfer I'm sure this would be a top spot. The grounds looked beautiful. But, I'm not, so the grounds were inconvenient. If you're a woman don't wear heels, it's very hilly. I'm the best in my heels but had to put on flip flops to get around safely. The room was above average and a nice size. My favorite part was the individual porch in front of my room off the the pool. The hotel is in a fairly secluded area so probably need a car.

A serene setting, good amenities and excellent service. The rooms and some aspects of the property are a dated. A new irrigation system has damaged an otherwise enjoyable golf course. If you are looking for a quiet, comfortable spot with golf and within 20 to 25 minutes of San Diego and the pretty coastal towns, this is a good choice. Appears to be more of a favorite for corporate meetings than for vacationers.

If you love golf or love a great spa experience - maybe both? This is a wonderful place. We had stayed a couple of years ago for golf tournament (he played and I enjoyed the spa), and thoroughly enjoyed the resort. For my husbands birthday this month, I decided to book the wine tour package at Rancho Bernardo, which was so much fun and a great value. Our spa view room was wonderful - quiet, clean, and very spacious. Though the spa and golf seemed only steps away, the area was still very private. Had a great dinner (a little pricey) at the Veranda, and though my husbands fish could have been better, the rib eye was excellent! Additionally, since I had purchased the wine package, breakfast was included too, along with parking and some other amenities. An overall very good time.

I was here for a convention and the grounds of the resort are definitely very nice. Has a couple of different restaurants with one overlooking the golf area, allowing for outside dining for all meals. The food was good but slightly overpriced while the bar was very nice and drinks were reasonable. The staff were attentive but did not fully describe the resort layout and amenities upon check-in. I had to find my own way around the first day - and didn't find the "adult pool" (no children) until the third day - after sharing the pool by my room with a bunch of screaming children for two days.
The resort does not offer pick up service from the San Diego airport but there is a shuttle available for $29 one way --- Ok if you don't mind stopping at other hotels to drop off other people. A cab or limo ride is very high priced because of the distance.
