“Great way to see some of the highlights of San Diego!”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

Although I thought the price was a little high, I bought my ticket online and saved a few dollars. The trolley is a good way to see San Diego without doing the driving. My driver was Vidal. He was very informative as well as entertaining. What a great date he would be!!! You're allowed to hop on and off at any of the trolley stops; there are eleven in all. If you plan to fit in more than 4 or 5 stops, you'll need to plan your day very carefully, or buy a 2-day pass. I enjoyed the ride and got to see what I wanted.

We enjoyed our tour so much. The drivers/guides, JON and AMY, that we had were very informed and lots of fun. You can see a lot of San Diego by going on this tour as you can get off and get back on the next trolley when you are ready. We were fortunate to take the tour on 9/11 and when we went on the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum they had a Memorial Service. It was very moving. On going around the ship, they have former pilots there to explain how to land a plane on the ship. It was very interesting. We got back on trolley & got to see the Conv. Ctr., Petco Stadium, City Ctr, .Balboa Park, Little Italy, Gaslamp Quarter, Horton Plaza & back to our starting point - Old Town Market where we shopped and had some delicious ice cream while we waited for our hotel shuttle to pick us up. It was a fabulous tour thanks to Jon & Amy and the great sightseeing stops that they take you to.

“A good way to sample San Diego”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

After the mixed reviews I had read, we decided to go for tour, after all, it is nice to get a sampler of the city.
We missed figuring out that there was a shuttle to catch the tour from our hotel in the morning. the downside to the shuttle was that you would not get returned to your hotel until 4:30 pm. Nonetheless, we drove ourselves over to the bayfront, figuring this was the best place to start. Not really. There is 2 hour parking at meters, or, 10 parking in a lot. We bought tickets there and dropped off part of our party who wanted to tour the Midway. We drove on to Old Town, where parking is free.
So, if you read many of these reviews, you will get the sense that these tour guides make or break the trip. We started off with Richard, who was excellent animated native from San Diego. He was a lot of fun, liked to ring the trolley bell, and His jokes were funny, not canned blather. He even made the best of the "tracks" they play over the speaker system, which we later would come to find annoying on later trolleys.
We got off at seaport to catch the rest of our party and when we recorded, Susie was our driver. I had a bad feeling from the get go, and she truly embodied some of the bad reviews of droll ness and cheesy use of these "tracks" that I think all trolley car drivers are obliged to use. Now, the suggestion here is if you don't like your driver, get off and on the next trolley. Especially if you will be on awhile. TO her credit, she did have some nice old photos of some of the areas we drove by, which were good since we sat near the front.
WHen we got to Balboa, it was so beautiful we HAD to get off, and say goodbye to that driver. When we reboarded we were relieved, that our next driver RJ was again more animated and entertaining. We didn't travel too far to our lunch stop, little Italy, where we once again spun the wheel of our next driver.
When we recorded for the last leg of our trip it was our original driver, Richard, entertaining and informative.
All in all, the drivers share a bit of history, which I got a lot about how San Diego was form, and interesting tid bits. The presentation from the driver makes or breaks weather you enjoy it or are just plain annoyed. It would probably be good for the company to take away the cheesy tracks, because when the driver is not great it just becomes annoying. Bottom line, it is a great way to sample the city.

“Good Way to See Some of the City”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

I will give the Old Town Trolley an average rating. We wanted to see some of San Diego and thought this was the best way to do it. Some of the driver/guides were excellent, others were difficult to understand or hear, and some were just not interesting. It was good to see the sights and get around easily, but I have been on many of these city tours through the country that gave a lot more valuable information, especially ideas of what to not miss at different stops. These tours are getting a bit expensive.

“Not the best city tour”
Reviewed October 2, 2012 via mobile

We have been on several such city tours. This one did not explain what was at each stop. They merely let you explore on your own. We expected tips as to what to the highlights were on each stop. They did not even have it in their literature. One driver, Bill, was very good and did give great information. Unfortunately for us, he was our last driver for only the last 2 stops. One driver thought he was absolutely the best joke teller in San Diego and gave us very little information about San Diego. We have found these trolley tours to be excellent in San Francisco and Washington DC, however, Old Town Trolley Tours of San Diego leaves much to be desired!!!
