Escape was an awesome location, directly in the middle of the Gaslamp Quarter. Curb side setting makes a wonderful setting to enjoy the city's best fish tacos. The staff was friendly. The rice that accompanies the tacos is awesome as well as the pickled cucumbers and carrots.

Like previuos reviews, place is small and almost missed it!! Had grilled seabass tacones and cilantro-lime rice that was wonderful!!!!! Crab cakes were good and pretty large, but save room for tacones!!!! Chef even came out and spoke to us. One of our favorite restaurants while in San Diego.

I had a good evening this summer at the Escape. The fish was fresh and well cooked. The waiter was cozy and friendly. The main problem is the short menu, but I prefer this kind of places because they know how to do stuff.

Short and sweet. Go to this small place tucked away on 5th Ave, try the soup (coconut milk based, with a piece of fried fish on top), once you do, you'll know that this is a real authentic place for fish. Try the grilled Sea Bass (around $25), you won't be disappointed.
