Owner description: Although this park is located within San Diego's city limits, it remains one of the wildest landscapes along the Southern California coast, with miles of unspoiled beaches, chaparral, elegant Torrey Pine trees and a lagoon vital to many species of migrating birds.

This is a gem location. The beaches are beautiful and have some interesting, small sea life along the rocks. The hikes provide fantastic panoramas and interesting desert plants. Be prepared, bring plenty of water and cover yourself with sunblock ahead of time. There is very little shade to be found. If you are looking for lunch or dinner after, Del Mar is a nice town with a few options for eating and drinking.

A go-to training area for running! Park along the coast (between Torrey Pines and Del Mar) as it is free. Enjoy the long run up to the top of TP....there are a few feeder trails along the way that are easy loops that offer some outstanding views! There is water and a bathroom at the top of the park.

I've been coming to this State Reserve beach for about 10 years now and it's a beautiful place to explore no matter what the weather forecast is. Sometimes it's overcast skies but I still enjoy a morning jog on the trails and then end up running along the beach in a big loop. Perfect for long weekend walks/hikes/runs. There are always many cars parked along the road right before the park entrance so you may want to do the street parking off the road to 56 exit. I always take my friends who are visiting in San Diego to this beach if we have the chance to go. You will not be disappointed!

Visiting Torrey Pines on a weekday, when the reserve is much less crowded than on weekends, can be an awesome experience. The views are spectacular, even when there is some fog or clouds in the wide sky. There are several trails that you can use to access the beach area, which is magical when it's not crowded. Do wear good hiking shoes, as some part of the trails are steep and rocky. The torrey pines are simply beautiful!

Wear athletic shoes and don't miss the beach area. So many trails and so beautiful. Not for the out of shape.
