Torrey Pines have been around since before the ice ages. They have their own soul. This is an amazing place that overlooks a gorgeous beach and beautiful ocean. No visit to San Diego is complete without a visit to Torrey Pines State Reserve

Each time we visit San Diego we go to the Torrey Pines Glider Port to watch the powered and unpowered parachutes and gliders launch themselves off of the cliffs. It is awesome to see these pilots turn into the wind coming off of the ocean and begin to lift off as they run downhill towards the edge of the cliff. Wild.

Great hiking, outstanding views. $12 fee but worth it if you are in the area. Would go again in a heartbeat

Beautiful bluff and beach hikes to choose from. It was not hard but well worth the trip and walk. It was well used by all ages. There is a fee but it goes to preserving this eco system.

This state reserve is the next to the famous Torry Pines Golf Course. Since we don't golf and prefer to hike, this is the obvious choice. You can either park along the beach for free or pay $12 and drive up to the ranger station where you can take a number of hiking trails. The hike down to the beach is spetacular. The beach itself is uncrowded and natural with a view to La Jolla. Can't beat it.
