Not much variety in the way of food. I ordered lobster bisque, since there were not sandwiches on the menu. It was mediocre at best---but I had a super mojito!

Just across the street from our hotel, this cafe seemed small at first, but it was perfect. We went for dinner and the food was very good and the service was exceptional- just excellent. We had a wonderful time and wanted to go back but ran out of time during out stay.

We found the Soleluna Cafe more or less by accident but were very excited. This place is run by real Italians and that's the guarantee to excellent food and service. A little bit hidden at the El Cortez it looks like an ordinary coffee shop from the outside but as soon as you are in you are treated very well. The service is extremly friendly and the food ... yummy. Went to a few "Italian" restaurants in the US but all of them were operated either by chains or by Americans. Don't want to say that they were'nt good but the taste is always the same. Not at the Soleluna! The Chefs are Italians and who was in Italy knows that Italians like to eat and know how to cook. It's not fine dining but I can highly recommend that place for lunch or dinner. If you want something special - just ask and they prepare it the way you like it. In addition they have specials which change every day.
And for the finish: after a delicious dessert they have GRAPPA to help you digest.

The espresso martini is my favorite thing to order here. They are delicious and unique--I haven't found anything like it at any other place. Their antipasto plate is a great variety of meats, cheeses, olives, and other snacks that are never quite the same. The waiters are very friendly, and some of them speak Italian. The two owners are from Italy--Bologna and Milan--so you know you are getting authentic food. The tiramisu is also delish, as is the eggplant parmigiana. They also have a great selection of very unique salads. I always sit out on the patio, which is very tranquil despite the fact that you are in downtown San Diego.
