Situated in the Marriott at the Marina on San Diego Bay, this restaurant is part of the Roy's chain, which is hit and miss around the country. Service was average, average wine list, and the food: salads were overdressed with vinegar, thus almost inedible; short ribs were incredibly salty (4 of us had them, and all agreed---it wasn't just one member of the party) The swordfish was overcooked, and stiff, and the butterfish was drowned in sauce. Best part of the meal were some of the desserts (not the 17 minute pre-order chocolate souffle or pineapple upside down cake) even the coffee was weak and stale. At these prices, in a city where locally sourced foods are exceptional you would expect better food. We won't go back.

Normally we dine on their patio, but last week, due to rain, we dined inside for the first time. And dinner was great. Our window seat offered a good view of the rain! Rain in San Diego?

The views of the harbor from Roy's are lovely and worth at least heading over for a drink to checkout. Located inside the Marriot, you also get to see the hotels lovely pool and grounds as you make your way to the restaurant. The food was average, but the drink menu was great. I would suggest going here for drinks and gazing out at the yachts in the harbor. Roy's is well worth the trip for the scenery alone!

I dined here with a party of three others during a business trip. All of our seafood entrees tasted very fresh, served hot with nice presentation. I've eaten at Roy's in Maui before and I'd say that the food and experience is comparable -- that is to say, consistently very good. Service was very attentive, water glasses always refilled, checking back to make sure our needs were met but not hovering. Probably the only weak points were the lighting, which at our table was so dim that we needed to use the flashlight app on our cell phone to read the menu, and the noise level got pretty high as a couple of large groups were seated near to our table. It's right on the harbor with a nice view of the marina, and looked like it had some nice outdoor seating as well (we dined inside). I'll eat here again if I'm staying in the vicinity.

I truly enjoy a quality meal. I always enjoy sitting on the patio for cocktails and a fine dinner at Roys. Even when it is cool weather they have outdoor heaters for your comfort. The food is quality food. Always cooked perfectly, beautiful presentation and the service is always friendly and prompt. The view from the patio is the marina. So pretty. I love this place and try to go there every time I visit San Diego.
