“Worse than convention center banquet food”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2013

You can get better salad at a convention center during a banquet. My spinach salad was drenched in a bland dressing. It came with about five pine nuts and two inch-long strips of roasted red pepper. The three brie croutons were ice cold. I added blackened salmon, which should really be named salty salmon. I am not sure there was any spice other than salt on it. Fortunately, there wasn't much of that either. My husband had the mixed greens salad with chicken. His salad was also heavily dressed. The chicken was almost pure gristle and connective tissue. Definitely not worth a $40 lunch. There was nothing fresh about this meal. Definitely not Top Chef. Definitely do not recommend for lunch. Chef Malarkey is well named is this is what he passes off as food.

“Not what you'd expect”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2013

#1, great vibe. Totally cool restaurant for drinks... dinner on the other hand is another story. Not saying anything was bad, but none of the food was anything worth going back for. The flavors were odd, and the prices are steep. Maybe it's just what we ordered? The staff though; SUPER friendly! Really enjoyed the service! We have been to a sister restaurant called Herringbone in La Jolla which also has an amazing vibe, and the food and drinks there are really good!

“good food and great drinks”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2013

Ive been here a few times and went again last week for my sisters birthday. They have some deliciously mixed cocktails! I recommend the Floridita (hibiscus rum, lime, sugar cane). The food is always good and they bring it out whenever you want so you can really stagger the meal to make it a dining experience. I got the Chicken and waffle small plate and although it was good I dont really recommend it. A mini waffle and pc of chicken for $14 and the chicken seemed dry. Steak and porkchop were really good and I love their crab cakes. Raspberry sorbet is to die for and tastes like you are biting into a fresh raspberry!

“Malarkey's original fabric is also the best”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2013

Had a great meal here which has since prompted me to check out his other ventures...none of them quite mirror the quality or uniqueness of the flavors I experienced at SS. FYI if you are on a low fat diet - this is not the place for you. All of his meals (even the veges) are rich and flavorful and probably full or butter and fat (not that there is anything wrong with that). Love the decor as well!
