Visited BICE during restaurant week and ate from a pre-fixed menu. Absolutely lovely meal and excellent customer service.

The San Diego version of this fine NY eatery that is both classy and has a great offering, is loud and whilst food is good, servings are small and service is hectic .

Great cheese and pasta menu.

I had a wonderful experience at Bice. The menu is wonderful, fresh, original and definitely authentic Italian food. Almost all of the staff is from Italy and speaks Italian. The pastas are almost all homemade and I especially enjoyed the selections of Italian hams, salami, and cheese. Now for the "not so good." The service needs some work. The staff is neither especially pleasing nor attentive. For example, we brought a bottle of wine and paid the corkage fee and then purchased an expensive bottle off of the wine list. Almost all restaurants will waive the corkage fee in this case. Bice did not, which is tacky. The food is also brought out too fast. The primi course was maybe 10 minutes ahead of the secondini course, which is outrageous for a nice restaurant. Overall a good experience and recommended.

Tonight was our last vacation night in San Diego and my husbuand and I decided to try Bice based on the recommendation of the concierge at the Omni. We have eaten at an Italian restaurant on Fifth in the Gaslamp District before and thought that it would be comparable. Were we wrong. The service was top notch and the food authentically Italian. We enjoyed the creative nuances to each dish. To start, we were served a mixed variety of bread and creaned ricotta infused with truffle oil served over Bice oil and balsamic vinegar. I had the gnocchi special and my husband had the veal; both were authentically Italian. The wine selection is extensive and the cheese selection outstanding. For those who love cheese as much as we do, they offer a wonderful cheese and salumi bar. We will definitely go back when visiting San Diego in the future.

From the outside, this looks like an elegant Italian restaurant. Once inside though, you realise it's a lively, noisy and slightly chaotic place. The service is rushed - as another reviewer points out, everything is done at 90 miles an hour. As a result, you sometimes have to wait ages for anyone to attend to you (we waited 30 minutes before placing our order) and sometimes everything happens all of a sudden - starters appearing from nowhere 5 minutes after we ordered them. To be fair the food is good - our two pasta main courses of lasagne and rabbit ravioli were both very good. The surrounding tables turned over quickly and the whole place was a constant bustle - it really wasn't a relaxing evening. The other irritant was that they automatically added 20% service the the bill - the first time I've seen that in America - which really wasn't warranted. I'm not sure I can recommend this place.
