This is a new facility, approximately 4 years old. It is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (known as Mormons) and is staffed by wonder couple and sister missionaries. It is a great interactive account of the march of the Mormon Battalion and how they opened roads into the San Diego Area. The exhibits are free and are really kid friendly. This is a great stop when you are in Old Town San Diego.

Located adjacent to Old Town San Diego this attraction provides a great view into the history of the area and the faith that the Mormon people had in serving their God and their country. Lots of fun for kids with gold panning and whatnot.

My wife and I were a little skeptical about whether we wanted to spend the time when they told us that the exhibit takes about an hour. It was one of the best things we did in our San Diego visit as it turns into a combined interactive live show/video/movie to convey the story of 500 soldiers who marched 2000 miles in the 1840s. We were enjoying it so much that we didn't notice it took almost an hour. And it is free. They do ask at the end if you have any interest in learning about Mormon religion but no pressure and no evangelizing. Staff was excellent. A great history lesson.

A bit of history about the key involvement of some members of this religion who put their lives on the line, assisting in the Mexican war, and contributing to the move west, including the settlements in San Diego (like the court house). The interactive program is fun for all ages; while the missionaries do not "push" the religion itself. More information is available at request. At the end, a fabulous free photo is offered, and kids love "panning" for gold. Something fun, fabulous, and different in Old Town.
