Many good restaurants with nice entertainment offerings at Humphrey's. Also, very nice views all around.

Not a lot to do but walk and contemplate how lucky you are to be there.

I've been to these two "islands" hundreds of times. They really don't belong grouped together. Shelter Island is closer to me and it's a great place to take a walk by the bay and see the boats of all sizes and types coming and going. You can see everything from dinghys to battleships to cruise ships on a busy beautiful day. One end of the island has the Bali Hai restaurant. Locals don't eat actual meals here but the mai tai's are legendary... if you can remember the experience at all. Go there for ONE mai tai and maybe an appetizer. After one mai tai, you might want another... DO NOT DO IT! Those things are mind erasers, sneaky mind erasers! The other end of the island has the bell that we used to ring after jumping across the moat when we were in high school. For some reason they have taken all the water out and the bell probably has been nuetered too. I still don't know why they did that, what's wrong with ringing the bell? In between the two ends is a nice path with benches and some picnic tables scattered here and there. You might want to take a picnic.

Harbor Island is home to a few highrise hotels and many marina's. It's pretty boring unless you want to watch boats racing in the bay or go to lunch or dinner at c level or Island Prime (two restaurants, same owner, same property, Island Prime is just much more expensive). Great place to eat with a view of downtown SD. Personally I'm tired of the food, but if you've never been there before and you like it spicey, try the Debra's Skirt's on Fire steak salad. It really is awesome!

I had some early morning runs down to Shelter Island, the scenery and views of San Diego are just beautiful. Lots of friendly people on early morning walks.

Shelter Island is my favorite place in San Diego to walk. Early in the morning you can even watch the cruise ships sail into the bay.
