I love America. I make money from America (thank you USA!!) but I generally don’t like the food. Fried stuff everywhere, high calorie snacks everywhere, but a complete dearth of salads, vegetables and low calorie food. You can get salads of course, but they are huge and always come laden with coleslaw, sauce, bacon etc, so they too are laden with calories. And if you ask to have these items removed you usually just end up with lettuce. And yet part of me loves visiting America because damn the meat is good!
Want a medium rare steak? You’ll get it, and it’ll be perfectly cooked. Want ribs done in a certain way? Yep, that’ll be easy. Want lamb chops medium but slightly burnt on the outside? Check. In the UK if you want a medium rare steak you’ll get one part of it like this and the rest will be well done, ribs come chewy and lamb chops are so expensive you wouldn’t bother! So thanks USA for knowing how to cook meat – it sound ridiculous but it is rare to find meat cooked to perfection every time you order.
And Kelley’s is a fine example of this, so well done them on keeping up the standard. Kelley’s only issues are the restaurant itself. It has a difficult to access front door (I walked around the building once before knowing which entrance to use) and very dated décor inside – 70s or 80s really.
I also had fish here and it was very good indeed. So go to Kelley’s if you’re staying in the Town and Country Hotel as it’s only a short walk and you’ll enjoy the food. If you want a better ambience and better looking restaurant then you really need to be looking elsewhere.
