There wasn't much to see here and it was overrun with visitors. Parking was scarce. Find something else to do in SD. Go to Nor-Cal for better tide pools.

Grab a tide table from one of the many hotels, or surf shops, or fishing stores, or check out the local newspaper to find the time of day when the tide is low enough for you to explore part of the sea often hidden. Certain times of the year the ocean is unusually low, and with sturdy, waterproof shoes you can spend hours looking for sea life normally only visible in aquariums. It's a delightful and enchanting experience.

This place can get really busy at the height of summer tourist season, but it is worth the effort. You go to the NPS lighthouse park entrance, pay the $5 and then make a quick right that will take you down the hill to the tidepools. Check before you go so that you time your visit just at tow tide. There are a series of parking lots along the coast so if one is full try another. The ocean views are great and an occasionaly blast of sea mist will wake you up in a hurry. When you go take spare clothes and shoes because you will get wet climbing and sliding on the wet moss covered rocks, but If you are careful and move slowly the creatures of the pools will reward you with a glimpse. If you're in good shape go the the far south end where there are usually less people and more living things to observe. If you have children with a thirst for critters this is a must see!! A word fo caution....the rocks are very slippery so wear shoes with good gripping soles....it's the ocean and the ocean is alive so always keep an eye on the waves.

We did not see as much wildlife as we thought we would and it is very slippery the more you try to explore out trying to look for more wildlife. I slipped and it was not fun.
The most we could see were barnacles, tiny crabs and one or two tiny fish in a small tide pool.
Other than that, we got bored pretty fast.

I waited about 20 minutes for parking but it was worth it for the views and the beauty of the place.

I just walked down to the rocky cliffs and looked at the water for a while and it was worth it just for that alone. It was beautiful there and wild.

The cars were backed up onto the road with people waiting for a parking space (day after Thanksgiving).

I thought it was well worth $5 to go out there for an hour.
