Worth every dollar! If we come back to San Diego we would go there again. You have to try the curry.

Have been to Rama two times during my 10 day stay in San Diego Gaslamp area. I find ther food to be excellant! Service has been good and attentive. I recomend the Pad Kana Moo Grob, Red Curry with rosted duck, Crying tiger prepared rare and the pork fried rice was good. I did not care for the cube steak special and not sure why it would be on the menu, very over done soy flavor. All in all a excellant meal from a Thai food expert!! I will go again maybe tonight :-))

Rama is The Gold Standard for exceptional Thai food in San Diego; no other Thai restaurant comes close. I live in San Diego and have been to half a dozen Thai places including the overrated Amarin, (terrible Tom Kha, average rice paper rolls) Lotus, Saffron (Nice for a strip mall), Royal Thai, and Taste of Thai.
For starters the atmosphere in Rama is inviting with authentic art pieces from Thailand throughout the restaurant. The entire back wall (30 feet high) reminds me of a famous waterfall in Hawaii called the wall of tears, wonderful ambience and soothing backdrop while dining. The music is chill lounge again hip yet sophisticated.
Now to the food. Pannuwat Soukja is an amazing chef, his fresh vegetable/tofu rolls are a must even for meat eaters, amazing peanut sauce has an excellent consistency (not thick or overpowering). His version of Tom Kha (Tom Khar) has the most amazing broth I have EVER had; I order it with Shrimp, always cooked to perfection. For an entree you cannot go wrong with the Pad Thai best in southern California, The Drunken Noodles with roasted duck are a personal favorite as well. If you are still hungry after all of that food, and in the mood for a curry based dish the Panang Curry with chicken is excellent.
Bottom line Rama is the best Thai restaurant in San Diego period. Ask for Gavin he is a busy but gracious host/ GM.
