Attended a wedding and reception at the Japanese Friendship Garden. The facilities are clean and the grounds are well manicured. Squeezed over 100 people in for both events. Great location!

Don't go here expecting a huge garden, it's small and tranquil. I could have stayed there for hours sitting in the shade reading a book. There was a huge beautiful koi pond and a building with Japanese antiques. Just one of many lovely things to look at in Balboa Park!

I've been to Japan and visited several Japanese gardens and they give you a inner rest and makes you feel calm. For the first time outside Japan I felt the same again :-) We had a guide and I recommend that so you learn more about what makes the garden calming you. Se the bonsai trees the stone garden. Drop the clock and get consumed by the experience. You will need around 1-2 hours here.

The Japanese Friendship Garden was beautiful and very clean. I wish there was more to see, it seemed small for the space available.
Thank you,

A nice stop in Balboa Park. The garden is small (about two acres) but very attractive. There are a number of places to sit and relax. The wedding kimonos in one of the pavilions are really pretty. And the food on the cafe deck is very good and authentic Japanese. The price is reasonable too.
