The special exhibition about pirates was good, and the movie theater is good. But the regular exhibitions don't have anything special compared to other museums in other cities.

We went to the Pirates exhibit and were fascinated both by the history of pirates and the science of how the wreck was discovered and the ongoing salvage. Very well done exhibit. The museum has other exhibits too. There were school groups the day we visited but they were kept in control and were not overly noisy. A little pricey but the cost of putting on this particular exhibit probably warrants the charge. Clean and friendly staff.

I love natural history museums and was really looking forward to visiting the museum in San Diego. My aunt and uncle are members and had free passes for my husband and I. If it wasn't for the free passes, the entry fee is $17/adult. The outside of the building is large and it looks like an impressive museum. We first checked out the extinct mammal exhibit then the dinosaurs, which were both really interesting. There was a pirate exhibit that cost an extra $15 per person to see. The museum doesn't even let members check out the pirate exhibit without paying the extra fee. We decided not to pay extra to see the pirate exhibit. We watched a 3-D movie on dinosaurs. The auditorium where the movies are shown is quite nice. On the 3rd floor, there are a few displays of animal skulls and the 4th floor has a local photography display. All pictures were for sale and had a price next to them. I thought that was odd since most museums don't sell their displays. There is a small exhibit on water, a gift shop, and the auditorium on the lower level. That was it. There was nothing else to see. I'm so glad that we had free tickets. I would not have been happy to pay $17 for so little. There is a new exhibit under construction. Maybe the museum will be better once the new exhibit opens. The museum is way overpriced for what you are able to see and learn. Save your money and go elsewhere (If you like natural history museums, check out the fabulous California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco).

This museum wasn't very interesting, and lacked any wow factor that would make the visit worth while. My wife and I were very disappointed. I've visited roadside attractions that grabbed my interest more than this museum. Side note: They also have only one set of bathrooms available on the main level, 'unless you pay extra for the temporary exhibit'.

Liked this and spent a couple of hours. They have several movies playing as a part of the exhibit that were educational. Lots of bones to look at and skipped the 3rd floor because it was artist paintings. All other areas were both educational and entertaining.
