“Nice Family Destination”

The museum is not huge, but its exhibits are very nice and it is reasonably priced. The featured exhibits are interesting and the facility is very well maintained.

“Very good, but expensive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

The museum has a very good section on prehistoric creatures. When we visited, it had an excellent exhibit about the history of chocolate (and high-end chocolate for sale), and another
excellent exhibit about horses. But there was an exhibit of photographs of horses that was out of place in this museum - it would have been more appropriate in the Museum of Photographic Art.
The museum building itself is beautiful and there is an IMAX theater. But the admission prices are high - $17 for an adult, $15 for senior, etc. Whether it is worth it depends on how interested you are in the exhibits at the time of your visit.

It is possible to buy a 7-day pass to Balboa Park which has tickets to 14 museums. If you plan to visit several of the many museums in the park, this is well worth the price and includes this museum. For a higher price, you can get a pass which also includes the zoo.

“Quiet and relaxed, but an average experience overall.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2012

Overall, average. Somewhat more geared toward children. When price is taken into account, it's not worth it at all. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Balboa Park itself has much more to offer so my recommendation is to not waste your time in this museum. Enjoy the walking around the Park and the architecture and grounds instead.

“Nice but not Impressive”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2012

After all we had read we expected more, especially for the cost. Very expensive. Five levels with very few displays, a lot of photographs, especially if you like horses. If you are looking for dinosaur bones and displays you may want to look elsewhere.

“Great place for kids and adults”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2012

We went for the dinosaurs and other paleontology exhibits. We had read the Titanic exhibit was there but it was closed. It's a half day, so if you get a balboa park pass you'll probably be better off. It's very near the Science Center, so the two make a good day.
