“San Diego Meeting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

Booked into Humphreys Half Moon for a business meeting -- would go back for vacation! Service A+++ from shuttle to front desk, housekeeping, banquet, restaurant! Very close to walks along the water. Views of the city, Naval air station, some naval ships and lots of sailboats.

Room Tip: Pool side is quiet and lush, but patio is close to sidewalk and draperies had to stay closed while I...

It was a nice stay. We were in San Diego for a wedding with several other people and this was one of the hotels the bride and groom chose to block off rooms. There was some dirty aspects of the room...glasses weren't clean and a stain on the bed sheet. We didn't spend a lot of time in our room though. The set up of the hotel is very nice and private though you could hear people talking outside the room and dragging luggage down the stairs. The pool is heated and the hot tub was really nice. We didn't try the on site restaurant...we tried to go to happy hour the first night and the host was on a private call on her cell phone. We didn't feel very welcome and decided to go to another location down the street. We never went back. We did not rent a car so we walked almost everywhere...10-15 minutes to restaurants, liquor stores, convenience stores, etc. That definitely helped with all the eating out that occurred on the trip! We took a cab one night to dinner. It was $20 each way so we mostly stayed around the hotel. We decided to rent a car for the last full day we were here so we could check out a couple of other places in San Diego and it was well worth it. We wouldn't do it for the entire week we were here, but one day was great. Shuttle service to and from the hotel/airport was a bonus. I would definitely consider staying here again and recommending to others.

We stayed once again at the Half Moon Inn on Shelter Island and had a GREAT STAY. The Suite was large, clean and the bedding was clean , crisp and comfortable. The grounds are well maintained and I love the Parrots. I feel like I am on a Tropical Island. Walk around the Property, there are several places to sit and enjoy the day. The Staff is attentive and helpful. We will certainly return to this Hotel!! Be sure to eat at the Brigantine Restaurant, especially the Taco Tuesday Happy Hour!!

Room Tip: Select a room facing the Marina with a lanai. Beautiful Sunset!!

We arrived early, and the front desk associate found a ready room! The bellman gave us a great recommendation for a fresh seafood lunch within walking distance. At night, the lounge had some excellent blues music, and light atmosphere with lots of dancing and fun for all. Hotel was just a short a drive from all the attractions without the hassle of all the traffic.

Room Tip: The hotel has an open air concert venue, so if any noise bothers you, check to see if there will be...

Our first experience with The Half Moon Inn was in the early 70's when we lived in San Diego. I was spending too much time working and my wife decided to get our parents to baby sit our two young children and she kidnapped me from work early on a Friday for a long romantic weekend at The Half Moon Inn. After we moved to Los Angeles, for business reasons, we always made it a point to come visit family, but stay at the Half Moon Inn. Over the years we watched them make constant improvements, not just in the hotel, but by adding an amazing restaurant, Humphrey's, and the concert venue. Weather it is for business or pleasure, the Half Moon Inn experience is ALWAYS pleasureable. It's a tropical oasis on the bay in America's Finest City. Be sure to get on the e-mailing list for year-round specials rates and packages.

My husband and I stayed 1 night and booked a last minute reservation which was overpriced but we considered that poor planning on our part. We took one of the last available suites. 2 queens with a garden view and kitchenette. The room was very clean and clean smelling. The garden views are actually thick palms that grow along the walking path. We had a nice, small balcony. The pictures online are a bit deceptive because although there is the tropical ambiance, it's a bit dreary and worn on the exterior. Think "Tiki Room" with a few blemishes and that would be the exact feel on the outside. The room was very dark even with a few lights on. The room had lots of new upgrades though with lovely sheets, granite counters in bathroom and kitchen and carpeting was nice etc. I must say, after a few hours walking the grounds, discovering the marina, the unique concert venue which was silent during our stay and hidden koi ponds it started to grow on us. The worst part of reserving an upstairs room was that there were NO elevators! We had to haul our luggage up the stairs. That was a bummer. So beware if you are physically unable to lift heavy objects.

Overall this property wants to BE more and from what I've read they are working on that. If you can get a good deal on a room with more of a view than we did, it would be worth coming back. The pool or marina views would be a huge plus for travelers. The best part of this hotel is the proximity to the marina.

Room Tip: Get a marina or pool view. The suites are VERY large and have a condo-like feeling. 2nd floor rooms...

My wife and I and four children love this hotel. we stay here for the Fourth of July holiday every year and it's amazing. it has a wonderful tropical feel of being on the island even though you're in the big city. The Bali high restaurant across the street is the most amazing restaurant to watch the Fourth of July fireworks from as it has glass walls is built in circular formation. the hotel has a great swimming area and beautiful concert venue. We have found that the interior rooms facing the pool are the best. there recently renovated less expensive and the view is better than the ocean rooms. The ocean rooms while you can see the water is overlooking a giant parking lot that is loud and not very nice to look at. another good room is the Harbor room that looks over the boats in the harbor, beautiful. staff is always helpful and eager to please it's wonderful tropical treat that we look forward to every year

Room Tip: The interior Poolview or tropical view rooms are the nicest and newly remodeled.
