“Great Location, Great Accomodations, The kids loved it!”

We were so apprehensive about staying at this resort after reading all the reviews but decided to give it a try because we wanted to stay very close to SeaWorld and the beach (and Fodders rated it one of the best family resorts) . Well, I have not one bad thing to say about this place and we would definitely stay there again. We had a beautfiful bayside bungalow suite with the beach just outside our back patio (complete with lounge chairs and a working chimenia). The room was beatiful and very clean (especially the bathroom) and quiet too! Our room was exactly as pictured on their website and it was perfect accomodations for our family of four. The grounds are well kept and gorgeous and our kids especially loved climbing the lookout tower. Service was terrific and prompt- room service was delivered within 20 minutes (used them for our breakfast and dinners) and were always accomodating to our special requests. We stayed one week and the staff was always friendly and helpful. I highly suggest going with one of their hotel packages - we did the Seaworld package which included accomodations (we upgraded) Seaworld tickets, free parking, and a $39 food credit daily. The best part is, it is less than a mile from SeaWorld and we had a great beach right at our door step. Definitely a great place for families. We highly recommend it!

Resort is not the 5 star resort it's cracked up to be. Rooms are on the small side and unexceptional, lacking enough comfortable seating in the "average" rooms, carpet stained and worn, bathrooms are spartan, can't believe they have the nerve to charge $18 per night to park outside your room. I can do that @ Motel 6 for free! Everything on-site is ridicuously expensive from meals at the restaurants to take-out coffee and tea at the Island Market. Service at the restaurant is slow -- staff is fine, just not well-staffed at high visibility times. Service seems a bit uneven across the board -- if you're in the low-rent district, 600 block of rooms, don't plan on getting your newspaper before 9AM, if you're lucky enough to get one at all.

On the positively exceptional side, the staff is extremely well trained, friendly and helpful at every turn. The grounds are lush and beautifully kept up.

For the money, I wouldn't stay here again -- choose the Dana across the water in Mission Bay!

Don't let the reviews stop you....I surprised my husband with a trip to San Diego and was VERY nervous after reading the reviews here. We've stayed at resorts all over the US and found this to be a very beautiful visit.

The rooms could use a little face lift, but the grounds more than make up for it. The heated pools were beautful, the staff was VERY friendly and the location was 10-15 minutes from everything. Only a 5-minute drive to beautiful La Jolla. I thought the bed was ultra comfortable with plenty of clean, fresh linens.

The concierge was so great in helping us pick the best restaurants in the area, shared menues with us and offered to make reservations.

The only major complaint I had was the $18/night parking fee.....not sure why they charge extra. We came home from being out all day to find someone else was parked in our spot. The resort took care of it immediately. We were just outside the adult pool...great location....ask for room 134.

Enjoy your stay!

We traveled to San Diego on February 19th for four nights. Our family and the friends we travelled with all loved it. The resort was absolutely beautiful. We loved staying right on the beach, which we mostly had to ourselves this time of year. The kids enjoyed a day in the heated pool. The food at the Barefoot Cafe was good for breakfast and lunch. Room service was timely. Location was good for Sea World, Zoo, 30 min to Lego Land. Would love to return.
Only drawback was thin walls...heard our neighbors shower and chatting at 5 am first two days. Then we went to Santa Monica at the Fairmont Miramar and heard street noise, so I guess it's hard to avoid the noise.

$189 a night (conference rate) and the rooms leak and have cobwebs. Friend's room filled with water, carpet was soaked like a sponge - they did not move her to another room, just put fans on the carpet. It smelled terrible.

My room had no desk chair (despite two calls) and room was twice not made up despite calls to housekeeping. And it wasn't my "do not disturb" sign -none of us had those in our rooms! Rooms often not made up until 3pm or later. Rain knocked out the server, so no $10 a day internet. $20 a day to park your car outside.

Restaurant service spectacularly bad. Dessert the waiter told me was rasberry was actually blueberry; waiter argued with me that there was "raspberry IN it" (it was creme brulee. Hard to hide fruit in there...what with all the blueberries and all). Casual restaurant was even worse. Food bland, ordinary - twice, hot dishes were served cold.

Sent an e-mail to the manager and answered the "satisfaction" survey with my name and contact info, but no response.

Our family just returned from a wonderful stay at this hotel – don’t let the negative reviews scare you away. If you want 5 star service this may not be the perfect resort for you – but if you want a private room on the water - don’t hesitate to book a room here. Our family of 5 stayed here for 8 nights and had a wonderful time. What we enjoyed the most:

1. Waking up each morning on the water – greeted by ducks and swans at our door.
2. Walks along the beach – collecting shells with the kids.
3. Fires on the beach at night – toasting marshmallows.
4 Swimming in the heated pool (87 degrees).
5. Climbing the tower at sunset.

I do have to warn you – the resort is expensive. The rooms are expensive, the food is expensive, the gift shop is expensive – and the parking fee is expensive. If you are not willing to pay a premium – do not stay here without a car. We would eat breakfast in our room, lunch at the many attractions in San Diego, and dinner out, or bring back pizza to our room.

We did have problems, similar to the other reviews, and I agree the service was not the best, but it did not negatively affect our vacation. All the resort employees were polite and helpful, and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. There just were not enough of them to service everyone at the same time.

If you want a bargain – don’t stay here. If you want to be pampered – don’t stay here. If you want a room in a tall hotel near the Seaport – don’t stay here. If you want a private room, on the water, where you can walk out of your door and be on the beach – consider staying here – we had a great time.

Worst service I've ever experienced. Will never return.
Had 5 requests for the hotel, 4 due to hotel’s own failure. Staff failed on all 5.
Twice requested crib and high-chair for our 1-year-old son before our arrival. Still not there when we arrived; had to wait for people to bring them.
Toilet would not flush solids. Took 3 phone calls and 30 minutes for someone to arrive to fix it, despite being told the first 2 times people were coming. Still did not flush solids, but at least toilet was temporarily clear.
Maids forgot to leave fresh soap. Requested soap be left outside the door, with no knocking to disturb our sleeping son (at 9 pm). Maid knocked, then laughed like it was a joke when I told her “Sh! No knocking.”
Manager was busy upon checkout. Concierge promised to have him call me the next day. No one ever called.
