This hotel, with all it's amenities, is in a perfect location to enjoy the Mission Bay/San Diego area.
We spent two nights in the Gaslamp District on a business trip and then wanted a more "vacation" area to relax and chose the Hilton in Mission Bay to spend our remaining two days and nights.
The front desk folks were great and put an expidite on getting our room cleaned as we were checking in early. While we waited for the room, we got a key to the pool area and started checking out the area. The Hotel is located in the middle of the Mission Bay parks and there is an OVERABUNDANCE of great walking and biking trails. The hotel pool is adequately sized but of course crowded in the middle of the day in the summer. The pool bar/restaurant has reasonably priced drinks and food. The Hotel Restaurant, where we ate two nights, has a traditional hotel priced menu BUT they offered a prix fix menu of appetizer/meal/dessert which was a good deal. We were not disappointed with either meal we had. Breakfast is served in this same main restaurant or you can get coffe and a quick bite at a "Starbucks" type coffee shop.
The hightlight of our short trip was spending Saturday "touring around" the Mission Bay area on bikes rented at the hotel. Dan, the bike tender, was GREAT and gave us a perfect map of the area and where we could bike. He had us get the best bikes and made sure the bike tires were perfect. Then he suggested a great place for breakfast/brunch, The Eggery on Mission Beach and fully explained all the little areas we could get tripped up on when following the bike trail signs. So, at 8:30am we were off our our biking excursion. We biked halfway around Mission Bay, around Seaworld, over the bridge and onto the beach boardwalk. We biked up and down the boardwalk, found the Eggery and had a GREAT breakfast, then walked all over the area, onto the Pier, got our feet wet in the cold ocean and did ALOT of people-watching. We got back on our bikes, were up and down the boardwalk again and then followed the other half of the bike trail back to the hotel. It was amazing to see the hundreds of locals taking advantage of the Mission Bay parks with picnics, birthday parties, company outings, baby showers....you name it! It was a SUPER workout and when we returned to the hotel at 3:30 - 7 hours later - , we calculated that we probably biked about 20 miles that day! It did not seem like it at all since the weather was PERFECT, with a nice breeze. I would HIGHLY recommend doing this to everyone. It is mostly flat, so even using the one-speed crusier bikes was fine. The hotel does charge you per hour for the bike but a full day maxes out at a 4 hour charge.
Yes, there are a TON of other things to do in the area but our day of biking is something we will never forget and look forward to coming back and doing this again.
