“Perfect Location for a Great Escape”
Reviewed August 24, 2011

This hotel, with all it's amenities, is in a perfect location to enjoy the Mission Bay/San Diego area.

We spent two nights in the Gaslamp District on a business trip and then wanted a more "vacation" area to relax and chose the Hilton in Mission Bay to spend our remaining two days and nights.

The front desk folks were great and put an expidite on getting our room cleaned as we were checking in early. While we waited for the room, we got a key to the pool area and started checking out the area. The Hotel is located in the middle of the Mission Bay parks and there is an OVERABUNDANCE of great walking and biking trails. The hotel pool is adequately sized but of course crowded in the middle of the day in the summer. The pool bar/restaurant has reasonably priced drinks and food. The Hotel Restaurant, where we ate two nights, has a traditional hotel priced menu BUT they offered a prix fix menu of appetizer/meal/dessert which was a good deal. We were not disappointed with either meal we had. Breakfast is served in this same main restaurant or you can get coffe and a quick bite at a "Starbucks" type coffee shop.

The hightlight of our short trip was spending Saturday "touring around" the Mission Bay area on bikes rented at the hotel. Dan, the bike tender, was GREAT and gave us a perfect map of the area and where we could bike. He had us get the best bikes and made sure the bike tires were perfect. Then he suggested a great place for breakfast/brunch, The Eggery on Mission Beach and fully explained all the little areas we could get tripped up on when following the bike trail signs. So, at 8:30am we were off our our biking excursion. We biked halfway around Mission Bay, around Seaworld, over the bridge and onto the beach boardwalk. We biked up and down the boardwalk, found the Eggery and had a GREAT breakfast, then walked all over the area, onto the Pier, got our feet wet in the cold ocean and did ALOT of people-watching. We got back on our bikes, were up and down the boardwalk again and then followed the other half of the bike trail back to the hotel. It was amazing to see the hundreds of locals taking advantage of the Mission Bay parks with picnics, birthday parties, company outings, baby showers....you name it! It was a SUPER workout and when we returned to the hotel at 3:30 - 7 hours later - , we calculated that we probably biked about 20 miles that day! It did not seem like it at all since the weather was PERFECT, with a nice breeze. I would HIGHLY recommend doing this to everyone. It is mostly flat, so even using the one-speed crusier bikes was fine. The hotel does charge you per hour for the bike but a full day maxes out at a 4 hour charge.

Yes, there are a TON of other things to do in the area but our day of biking is something we will never forget and look forward to coming back and doing this again.

Room Tip: We were in room 219 on the second floor, (no elevator) and the room appeared to be recently renovate...

A great resort with plenty to do for the children. Room was a great size for a family of 4 but did overlook the freeway which was very noisy, even during the night. Although the room had a private balcony, the noise from the freeway made it impossible to sit out or open the balcony doors for air. Restaurants at the hotel had limited menus and were pricey. There were no other restaurants within walking distance. Pool area was pleasant and beautifully landscaped but the pool area could get crowded in the afternoon. Great views of Seaworld's fireworks from the beach, which is just across the bay. Car parking is very expensive at 28 dollars and you will need a car staying at this resort.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the bay as rooms which overlook the freeway are very noisy

Hi Nicola B.,

I would like to thank you for posting a review about the Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa. We take all of our guest comments very seriously and will note your feedback to further improve upon our property and internal processes.

I’m glad that the rooms were spacious enough to fit your entire family, yet I do agree that upgrading your guestroom to have a bayview is a fantastic perk as you not only get a view of Mission Bay but you can also see the SeaWorld fireworks from your balcony or private patio.

I apologize if we fell short on your expectations regarding the restaurants on property. We have a variety of options to choose from that range in price and menu in hopes that our food & beverage selection will satisfy all guest needs. Our food & beverage outlets include Acqua Restaurant, The Olive Lounge, Fresco’s Pool Bar & Grill, Aroma Coffee Shop and The Marketplace (sandwiches and snacks).

Thank you again for your feedback and we hope you will come back again soon.

I have stayed at this Hilton for years. As a long time HIlton fan, I bring my family here every summer for a relaxing, and at the same time active vacation. The location is perfect, the jet skis and water activities are numerous, and the bicyling around Mission Bay is terrific. With two teenage boys there were plenty of activities here for everyone. They loved the freedom of the resort along with Fresco's grill (poolside), and we all have a great time. I loved the Brezzia spa, beach, and onsite Starbucks. But I must say that one of the reasons that this Hilton is a stand out (besides the facility) is the customer service. It is exceptional!. William at the front desk is without a doubt the best! We came during a rush hour, and he was amazing. Answering phones, showing someone how to get somewhere in Italian, and very pleasant to deal with. As a professional in Human Resources, he is definitely the consummate professional. Driving home last evening, we talked about our trip, and will look forward to returning next year.

Room Tip: All rooms are great here, I prefer the bayview and the villas.

My son and I came from out of town. We had the pleasure of staying at the Hilton Resort & spa in San Diego. Starting with the check in. I had the pleasure of speaking with a young lady by the name of TC. She was so friendly and she knew her stuff. I was really in a bad mood that day. I have to say she made my day. She was very nice. I felt like I was speaking with a friend. She really had my son and my best interest. The Hotel was quit beautiful. I enjoyed the spa and the service I received. You can bet I will come back next year. Thanks to TC

We've stayed at this hotel three times now and always enjoy our stay. The location is perfect, close to SeaWorld, Old town, and the ballpark. Service has been exceptional, and more specifically, William at the front desk was overly accomadating to my family and I. We will certainly be back again next summer.

As other tripadvisors have commented, $28 is far too high a price for parking your car, even though it is very convenient being near your room. Also, 4 pm is a little too late to check in. 3pm is late enough. However, everything else about the hotel was great. We loved our room with private patio where you can walk straight onto the beach through a little garden. Lovely walks along the shore with Sea World in the distance. There was a welcome fridge and coffee/tea maker which we'd missed in Las Vegas from where we had just driven for nearly 5 hours.
The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was well kitted out but the hotel IS rather expensive and actually preferred the Bahia Bay where we stayed a few years ago as there was more to do in the area.

Room Tip: try and get a ground floor room in the gardens rather than in the Tower.

Hi E&JJJ,

Thank you so much for posting a review on TripAdvisor with feedback regarding your stay. I’m thrilled that you enjoyed your guestroom, amenities and our beach! Staying at a full service resort property can come with a slightly higher price tag than a smaller hotel property. Moving forward, I recommend utilizing one of our resort specials that provide great price breaks and added value opportunities. For example, we just started our $25 per night resort credit promotion, which has been quite popular. Also, we have committed to offering an array of complimentary resort activities to all of our guests to enjoy. Free activities include paddle board lessons, dive-in movies, s’mores bonfire sing-alongs on the beach, family fun activities, and banana speed-boat tube rides on the Bay. We hope that you will consider staying with us again soon. If you would like to offer any additional feedback, please feel free to email me directly at lcampbell@missionbayhilton.com.

Thank you,
