Beautiful scenic views, tide pools and minimal cost - This is on our list of regular stops in San Diego – great place to go and explore tide pools and enjoy some really beautiful scenery especially if you are on a budget. Tip - check the tides, if you want to explore the tide pools go at low tide.

We ate at the fish market and it was excellent. The view was also great. We could see ships out in the ocean. Also, saliboats were numerous.

Went to visit the lighthouse and museum...they were great. And a wonderful view of the ocean and San Diego. It was high tide, so went back another day during low tide to see the tide pools. Enjoyed it so much, we spent more time here and at La Jolla beach with the seals, that we didn't end up feeling the need to visit Sea World : )

Point Loma sticks far out into the Pacific ocean along the south side of San Diego bay. The views of the active port are terrific. Coast guard ships and navy submarines share the channel with sail boats and commercial craft.

Climbing up to the lighthouse you have views north up to La Jolla and out across the broad Pacific.

The lighthouse is open and set up so you can see how the keeper and family lived in this small space. The tower to the light is open only two days a year, and this was not one of them. There is a similar light displayed in the nearby keeper's assistant quarters.

There are films played in the visitor center on various topics including the Spanish explorers and the natural aspects of the Pacific Ocean, including whales. We did not stay to see them, since we mainly were there for the views.

A nice national park stop.
