Most fun place ever to stay....it is an institution not a hostel! You have to be prepared it is a hostel and not a hotel....therefore atmosphere....fun...on the beach...great times lots of bbqs and fun....Dont go if you want a clean private room to yourself and luxury...its fun and backpackers heaven for socialising....have been back 3 times!

AMAZING.....

The hostel was close to everything in the Pacific Beach area. However, all the "free" stuff they offer is virtually nonexistence. The internet connection didn't work at all. Also, they say there is parking and told us to park on the street yet we ended up getting a $40 parking ticket. When we went in to ask them about it the staff was surly and ignored us. It was very disappointing... especially since we arrived at night and was unfamiliar with the area.

The character and location of this hostel rates the highest ive ever been to. Comfy beds, free breakfast, good company and the beach all led me to a great visit to Pacific Beach. Cheers!

Banana Bungalow is one cool place to stay. Situated right on the beach, it has bags of character and is very comfortable and homely. Everyone is laid back all the staff are very helpfull, and it is situated close to the supermarket which is really useful. The bus to downtown also stops right across the street. Definately worth it to stay here.

Easily the dirtiest hostel I have stayed in. Two of the toilets didn't work, dirt and sand everywhere. Had a fun three nights though probably couldn't stay there any longer. The location is prime - literally on the beach, has a great deck over looking the beach. The staff are all friendly and simply love the place. One of them took us on a great tour of Tijuana and we had the time of our lives. Always people to have a beer with but made it hard getting to sleep on the night we wanted a quiet night. Kitchen is tiny and breakfast is simply bread and peanut butter/jam but at 20 bucks a night this is a great way to meet people and have a hell of a weekend.

Stayed for one night in private room $65. Was told on arrival that there was no water for the day so no toilet, cooking, washing and NO reduction was offered. Room was dirty, sheets and bedding stank and were stained, there was an empty condom wrapper between the bunks (i took photos of all this). The beds were really uncomfortable and really old. The staff seemed friendly enough on arrival and the deck is okay for chilling with a beer. However if you look about a bit and are not alone you can get a lot more for a similar price. Spend your hard earned elsewhere, the owners of this dump must be laughing all the way to the bank.

Overall as a hostel, it serves it's purpose though ultimately could be a tad bit cleaner than what we seen during our 3 day stay. It's perfectly located on the beach front and local shops & restaurants. Some of the staff weren't overly welcoming but seemed to prefer the young single girls checkin in, if ye know what i mean..! If partying and drinking hard is your game, then you'd love this place... Staff were keen to remind ye of house rules, they often didn't adhere to the rules themselves which often indicated lack of respect at 4am, 5am, etc..
Complimentary breakfast = small bread toasted..!!
