“Location counts... again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

I've said it before, but I'll say it again. Sometimes location is everything ! The Pacific Terrace is a relatively small hotel where you can walk down the steps straight on to the beach and then start swimming in the Pacific. It really is quite something to go to sleep at night lulled by the gentle sound of the Pacific's waves lapping on the beach next to you.

Having said that, the hotel itself is great also. All the staff were very welcoming, from the car valet up to the manager. The room was enormous, the bed was big and very comfortable, everything was very clean, etc. The hotel is about 20 minutes out of downtown San Diego, but it is no hassle at all to go there.

Not cheap, but given the size of the room and the proximity to the ocean, why should it be?

All in all, thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 3rd floor with a full view of the Pacific

The hotel is situated in Pacific Beach and is right on the beach. The staff are very friendly and efficient and nothing is too much trouble. The hotel has a great pool and hot tub with views across the ocean. The rooms are very comfortable and each afternoon cookies and coffee are provided free of charge.

Awesome hotel on the beach and boardwalk! We visited for 6 days in early December 2011. Very relaxing and awesome views from the room balcony. Close to many local restaurants with good food options. The boardwalk was amazing. The pier and Christmas tree was impressive during the holiday season. The room was very nice, updated and clean, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was above average for hotel breakfast options. Excellent choice that we just lucked into by looking on the internet. The green flash was amazing! Definitely would stay there again. Highly recommended! Fly in, no car necessary, bus rides effective, and trolleys a good option. Old Town was really impressive. We cannot wait for our next opportunity to visit Pacific Terrace!

Room Tip: Full ocean view and leave the doors open in the evening!

I lived in San Diego for 11 years and moved up to Northern California a year ago. My boyfriend and I decided it was time to go back for a little mini vacation and to visit friends. I have to say that staying at Pacific Terrace MADE our trip. The place is in a perfect location in Pacific Beach and the hotel is great! What really was the icing on the cake for us was the staff!! Enrico and the rest of the front desk staff were AMAZING!! I have been in the hospitality business for 15 years and this was BY FAR the BEST hotel experience I've had. They made us feel welcome and at home. Katherine the concierge was wonderful as well, even though we weren't the typical tourist (zoo, seaworld, etc...) she was determined to help out how ever she could. I will recommend this hotel to ANYONE and EVERYONE that I can and I will definitely be back, again and again!!

Room Tip: Every room in this place is great, No Joke!

This was our third trip to San Diego and third stay at Pacific Terrace. The location is fantastic. Within walking distance from many restaurants, shops and ocean promenade.

The views from the rooms of the Pacific sunsets are beyond compare. the rooms are always immaculate and spacious with extremely comfortable bedding.
We love to sit on the balcony with a glass of wine in the afternoon and enjoy the view.

The pool and the spa both overlook the beach...need I say more!?

The Pacific Terrace is our San Diego home away from home.

Room Tip: We always opt for the full ocean view rooms but most of the partial view room are nothing awful by a...

For years I have been wanting to take a vacation and stay in a hotel on the beach. Every time I came to tripadvisor I looked at San Diego hotels on the beach. Being on a minimal budget I only read descriptions and reviews and looked longingly at the photos of the Pacific Terrace Hotel. I finally booked rooms at a different hotel on the beach. When I went to the Pacific Terrace website, I discovered their AAA discounted rate. I cancelled the other hotel and booked our room at Pacific Terrace right away. It was still a bit out of my budget, but as soon as we arrived, I knew it was worth every penny. Sometimes hotel photos are a bit deceiving so I tried to temper my expectations. But when we arrived, the hotel really does look exactly like the photos. And the view is even better.

The rooms were beautiful. I love the wood furniture and that the room wasn't overpowered by the furniture. But the best part of the room was how clean it was. I agree with other reviewers, it is worth it to pay for an ocean view room. It was really incredible to be able to lie in bed and see and hear the ocean. And the balcony was a good size to sit outside and relax. We slept with the sliding door open (make sure you close the screen otherwise the crazy seaweed flies will drive you nuts at night).

Even though the ocean view was better than we could imagine (we also had a room that gave us a view of the pool) and the room was clean and nice, the best part of our stay was the service. Everyone was really friendly. Anytime we passed a staff member in the hall or on the elevator we were greeted. Sometimes at these more expensive hotels, they are not as gracious to younger people who dress super casual, but everyone was nice and helpful. The concierge helped us make reservations for dinner and the staff recommended some other restaurants for other meals. We ordered in from Duck Dive one of the evenings - the food was a little pricey but also worth it. The hotel staff took our order, went to the restaurant (just 1 block away) and delivered it hot to our room. We did not do the hotel breakfast as there are so many restaurants within walking distance. The hot tub and pool were always clean even though a storm had come through the night before.

Hotel parking is a bit pricey, but honestly, if you're paying the room rate, I'm not sure how much this would bother you. You can definitely try and find street parking nearby if you don't want to pay this. We did just for the sake of convenience. And because it's underground parking, we felt a bit safer. We chose to drive out a couple times, but for the most part we were able to walk to restaurants and shopping - and of course the beach is just steps away!

We would probably not be able to afford to stay here during their high season. But the weather is still nice enough in early November that it was worth the wait. If you are doing a lot of touristy things and will not be spending much time in your room, this hotel may not be worth it. We were looking for a relaxing weekend of not doing anything and so having the ocean view and closeness to the beach was exactly what we were looking for.

One suggestion for the hotel - there really wasn't any place to hang both the bathroom towels or beach towels to dry. Not sure what could be done about this, maybe more hooks on the door?

Thanks, Pacific Terrace! Best. Vacation. Ever.

We first found this hotel through Hotels Tonight, so we got a great rate plus a $25 credit through the app. We only picked this place because it was the best option available (out of 3) in the area we were looking (San Diego Beach Cities). This was the first week of November, 2012, so availability was high and demand low. That accounts for the rate we got.

The next night, we had a room booked at the W hotel in Beverly Hills, and we couldn't cancel without losing hundreds of dollars, but if we could, we would have stayed here the following 2 nights of our vacation. It was so good, we came back for the night after our stay in Los Angeles. The staff was always cheery and friendly. The pool and hot tub area is classy and clean. The hotel is right on the beach and does the best job at maximizing the number of rooms with some kind of view or at least the ability to leave the doors open to hear the ocean all night.

Our best deal of the stay was the 2nd night, we we able to upgrade to the Executive Suite for only a minor additional charge on top of our already great rate. It was an easy decision to spend the small amount on the upgrade to the top (3rd) floor. The room was large (750 square feet; Our house is just 1100 square feet!), but the bathroom was amazing.

I didn't get the breakfast in the hotel, which is unfortunately an additional $14 charge per person. They did let me get coffee without charge instead of having to make it for myself in the room (each had a coffee pot, plus fridge and microwave).

If it wasn't for the offseason deals, we couldn't have afford this hotel. It was worth every penny, maybe even for the summer-season rates if I could afford it then.

Room Tip: As long as you have partial view, you can leave the doors open to listen to the ocean all night. Avo...
