“A great hotel on Pacific Beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2012

We stayed here Oct 14th after a stay at Disneyland and LegoLand. This hotel is extremly nice, and the hotel staff are very elpful and very courteous, attending to any of our needs. The location of this hotel is easy to find even though it is right on Pacific Beach. We drove here and arrived earlier than expected due to good traffic, the staff was more than helpful getting checked in early to our room, at 11:30am. We expected to have to store our surtcases and wonder if our room would be ready when we got back from LegoLand. It was nice to drop our stuff off in a beautiful room, and take a quick look see at the patio and pool area. Our first floor room had a partial ocean view and the patio let right out into the courtyard and pool area with easy access to the key carded back gate and pool area. The staff was more than helpful getting us a couple of beach chairs and boogie boards for my son and I. Plenty of towels for hte beach and a short walk down the stairs had us on the beach in less than 5 mnutes. The beds were excellent, but the bed frames were fully surrounding the bed, something that we did not expect, and took some getting used to in getting in and out of bed. The bathroom was very roomy and very clean with ample storage for your personal gear and bath towels for four people. We had a complimentary glass of wine the second night, and had a couple more drinks at the bar during happy hour. The bar serves as the breakfast eating area and is the only low point of the hotel. This hotel does not have a full service kitchen or bar, but makes an excellent Lon Island Iced Tea, the best I have tased in years. This hotels location allows a quick 15 minute walk into "town" or down the street to have some lunch. We went out for sushi for lunch and found lots of places and freindly people in Pacific Beach. Kind of makes me want to visit again and just do the beach thing, swim, boogie board and eat out, a great vacation. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wicshing to stay at Pacific Beach and checking out the local sites / eateries.

Room Tip: Partial view rooms are good, however I would not have a problem taking a no ocean view in this hotel...

Once again this hotel has out done itself a perfect ten (10). Staff is the best on Pacific Beach area,, friendly, out going, knowledgeable and can't do enough for you. They know how to make you feel like your at home and also know how to pamper you. We can't remember all of their names, but a Big Thank you to; ENRICO, KYLA, ANGELA, ANGELA, JOE, CAMERON, DAN, KATHERINE, LOUNGE/POOL STAFF, KATHY, ENGINEERING, AND HOUSKEEPING they always had friendly faces, great smiles and very helpfull. Can't wait to go back and back to this Hotel to enjoy the ocean view/beach, boardwalk, rooms, area restruants/stores. There's always plenty to do at the Pacific Terrace Hotel.
LIFE IS WONDERFUL HERE.

From the very first greeting from Enrico late at our check-in to Cameron the valet giving us great little sightseeing tips, our stay here was wonderful!! The accommodations were clean, and roomy. We were located on the 3rd floor(need to ask) with a beautiful view of the ocean and overlooking the pool. We kept our sliding door open all night with the shutters slightly closed to block the morning sun. PERFECT!! We were celebrating our 25th anniversary and they sent us a bottle of wine, 2 glasses,a wine opener and a personalized anniversary card signed by all the staff. We were totally pleased with this personal and sweet gesture. This hotel was in the middle of all different restaurants and shops. We were able to borrow chairs and towels and not have to worry about bringing these items. I can't tell you enough about how warm and caring the staff was to us through our whole experience!! Thank you again for making our anniversary WONDERFUL!!

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd floor had the best views.

I travel extensively for work and pleasure. I think this hotel ranks in my top 3 for everything and it might actually take the #1 spot. Service is the best I have ever experienced, very friendly, fun and professional. The rooms are perfectly decorated with upscale furnishings. The amenities are wonderful...pool overlooking the ocean with cabanas, bike rentals (free with the internet package I purchased), boogie boards to borrow, micro, fridge and dishes in the room. The view is incredible and the hotel is spotless! Even with the constant salt spray, our balcony doors were always clean. So clean my son walked into it. I rely heavily on Trip Advisor for recommendations but have never felt lead to leave a comment until now.

We stayed for 5 nights and were very happy. The welcome is warm and friendly and this experience with all staff continued throughout our stay. Nothing was too much trouble. Our full ocean view room was on the third (top) floor and I would highly recommend requesting this level if you can. The view is amazing and there is space to sit and enjoy the afternoon sun. There is no restaurant but it's no problem to order in food to eat in your room or on the patio over looking the pool. Having a large refrigerator also meant it was easy to chill wine and other drinks making life very pleasant. There was a slight problem in the breakfast area with flies and the breakfast generally was only adequate but there are plenty of great places nearby to have breakfast so overall it was not a problem.
Such a relaxed and friendly place made us feel very welcome which is very much to their credit.

Room Tip: Top floor, full ocean view is best !

Hello in England!
Thanks for staying with us while in San Diego. You have certainly pointed out our greatest asset, our staff. They really enjoy interacting with their guests. Good news- we will be making changes to the breakfast menu in the next few months and the flies are on the move with the recent weather changes. We hope you will make it back to San Diego and the Pacific Terrace Hotel again in the future.
Warm Regards,
Angela Hansen

We had one night to spend in SoCal before attending a weekend wedding, so we wanted a special place to celebrate our anniversary. Having flown all the way from South Florida, we arrive at this hotel, excited to begin our journey in a "top" rated property. The "Junior Suite" room was booked well in advance (through Hotels.com, which of course the hotel blamed), with special instructions for an ocean view, and that is was for an anniversary. Well, upon our arrival, the front desk informs us that we have been "upgraded" to a "Family Suite", implying that this was better than what we had requested. Well, the "Family Suite" was on the bottom floor, below grade, no ocean view or balcony and stuck in a corner near the exit. We went back to the front desk and said that this was not in fact and "upgrade" and that we want what we orginally paid for....they said "oh, I sorry, we are sold out". This was unacceptable, and a HUGE disappointment for me and my husband. They agreed to refund our money, and we proceeded to go down the street to Tower 23, who not only accomodated us with a 3rd floor, ocean view room, but brought us a welcome cocktail to our room.
My advice:
Don't count on Pacific Terrace Hotel to honor ANYTHING in a room request and don't set your self up for the chance of getting your special experience ruined.

Dear Guest,
I wish you would have stayed with us to have the true Pacific Terrace experience, I know our staff would have made your anniversary very special. Although the view is the same as what you reserved, the Family Suite is a 2 room suite, it’s larger and it’s physically closer to the ocean than the Partial View room you reserved. For king sized beds and Full Ocean Views you would need to select that room type when making the reservation. If you would be willing to give us another chance in the future, I am sure you will not be disappointed.
Sincerely,
Angela Hansen

We stayed here for 2 nights in October and wish we could have stayed here for another few. Lovely pool/jacuzzi overlooking the ocean on Pacific Beach. The rooms were nice and big with a very nice en-suite. Front desk staff and cleaning staff couldn't have been friendlier and we will stay here from now on when visiting San Diego.
