We stayed at the Keating House and had the best experience. The owners are friendly and informative, although we used to live in San Diego, so we didn't need too much guidance. We stayed in the Music Room which was downstairs and even when people were in the dining room for breakfast (which was great BTW), the walls are so thick, you don't hear anything. You don't even hear the people upstairs. We were able to view other rooms and they are all very nice with updated bathrooms attached. Forget about what people say about the airplanes - they DO NOT fly over the house and they DO NOT fly late at night. We were so lucky with the weather that we sat on the front porch and drank a bottle of wine, watching the neighborhood. This is the first visit since we left San Diego two years ago that I really felt I was on vacation there. We will be back in August for sure!

We spent two comfortable nights at the Keating House. We were welcomed by the friendly owner with a comprehensive conversation about the inn and the activities in the area.
We had a very comfortable room and enjoy our breakfast.
The airplane noise was not a problem as suggested by another reviewer. It was not that loud; I am a light sleeper and had two great nights sleep. I do not think there were approaching airplanes between 11 PM and 7 AM. Therefore, unless you like to sleep late, the airport is not a problem and location is terrific.
The free wireless connection was appreciated.
I will return again when in San Diego.

We were in San Diego recently for a convention and stayed in the yellow room at the Keating House. The house is lovely with bright colors, high ceilings, and comfortable furniture. The hosts, Doug and Ben, provided useful information for seeing the sights. They gave great recommendations for restaurants; we didn't have a bad meal while we were in San Diego. Although others have commented on the noise of the planes overhead, we didn't notice it and slept well each night (but we were exhausted from the convention). No TVs in the room, which is a nice change of pace and makes the house quieter. Breakfast is fine, although frittatas every morning got a bit old. One odd thing is the soap--antibacterial hand soap, baby shampoo, and dandruff shampoo in the shower. Our room and the adjoining bath were quite spacious. The room faces south, so is bright in the morning. We liked that because we needed to be up early. If you like to sleep late, this isn't the room for you. The house is looking a bit worn and all rooms could use a coat of paint. Still, much better than staying at the convention or other nearby hotels.

This house is amazing, I felt as if I should be wearing a crinoline.

Ben and Doug the owners made us feel so welcome. The welcome talk and overview of the area was very informative and most helpful.

We stayed in the 'music room' which had a beautiful iron four poster bed. The bathroom was perfectly finished with period shower fittings.

Everywhere we looked there were antiques but Ben & Doug insisted that guests should make themselves at home.

The breakfasts were excellent and chance to meet the other guests.

The location of Keating House is very close to Balboa Park, but a long walk or a bus ride away from the Gaslamp Quarter/Sea front. However this should not put anyone off booking such a perfect B&B.

The Keating House is in a pleasant neighborhood, very near Balboa Park, downtown, and the airport. The Inn is very comfortable, very clean, and the breakfasts, which are served in the lovely dining room, are gourmet. The innkeepers are very friendly and most accommodating. They even make a great pot of tea. I can't believe someone wrote a review about the noise, it is near downtown and the airport - give them a break! If you want to sleep totally noise free, bring $1.00 earplugs! I will definitely stay here again.

We were fortunate to secure a reservation for the Rock n Rock Marathon weekend. We stayed in the Cottage Suite, which was very roomy with a living area, kitchenette, bathroom, and bedroom. The suite was impeccably clean, and well furnished with everything we could need. The bedroom enjoyed french doors that led to a small patio area with tons of flowering plants. Our hosts, Dan and Doug were very helpful from the moment we arrived, greeting us with a "tour" of the city in the dining room. Dan brought out a map, let us know how the street names ran, where to find good restaurants in the immediate area, and directions to attractions. Breakfast each morning was delicious!! We enjoyed fresh fruit, quiche, breads with homemade marmalade, juice, etc. Dan & Doug's service was very attentive, and they were interested in knowing where we had been and what are plans for the day were, without being too inquisitive.

Keating House is centrally located, with most attractions and points of interest without a few blocks. I would highly recommend Keating House for your stay in San Diego.

We stayed in the Lilac Room at the Keating House for only one night, the last night of our vacation. We were very pleased with our time there. Their policy is a two-night minimum stay but it worked out that we could stay for one night only. The hosts were pleasant, and took time as soon as we arrived to give us great suggestions for dinner. Our room was charming and the bed was very comfortable. Travelers who enjoy the peculiarities and personalities of old homes will definitely appreciate the Keating House. I notice other reviewers remarked on the noise from the airport but, honestly, with the San Diego airport located where it is, I think it would be hard to find a place in the interesting areas of San Diego that didn't live with the noise from the airport. If it's a huge deal, I have one word - earplugs. Or is that two words? At any rate, the noise didn't bother us a bit. Before breakfast we sat on the front porch swing and enjoyed a good cup of coffee and the picturesque grounds, then joined two other couples who had been staying there for several days for a beautifully presented and very tasty breakfast. If we have the chance to return to San Diego, we will definitely return to the Keating House.
