This B&B had almost everything you need. In terms of location, it was just right. A few minutes from Balboa Park, a beautiful place worth a few hours if not days exploration. It was about a mile from the centre, so 20min walk and had a few lovely eateries within a block or 2. It felt safe, the neighbourhood seemed chic and it was super well connected by public transport. San Diego has a lovely vibe to it and its more about taking in the feel of the place rather than specific attractions. However, would recommend Coronado for a bit of cycling and a jog over to the park at Sunset. The house itself has great character, full of curios and old pictures which give the residence an identity of its own. The room (blue) was cute. It was basic and clean, the bed linen was really lovely. Take the time to sit on the hammock out front with a glass of wine and watch the planes (quite amusing). Agreed with a few comments, that it does look a little worn out. I think the age of the house is a feature they are trying to emphasise but perhaps some sympathetic updating could be considered?

Finally, our main appreciation has to be levelled at Doug and Ben, who made this a personal experience for us. From check in, Doug took the time to run through some recommendations (spot on BTW), walking routes and suggestions. Ben even took our heavy bags up to the bedroom whilst we were checking in. Breakfast became a feature of our day, just chatting to them was a pleasure and we appreciated the efforts made to feed us a fruit-based starter and frittata entree of the day. The little orchids on the table and pomegranate garnishes would not be expected in a usual b&b. Finally, they took the time to plan a scenic route for us to take to Palm Springs, again, much appreciated.

The owners, Ben and Doug, really makes this feel like a comfortable home. They are a wealth of information regarding what to see in San Diego. The best part about staying at a B & B are the people you meet - you don't get that kind of interaction in a hotel. Past reviews mention the airplanes - yes, the planes can be heard and seen. If this is going to bother you book somewhere else. The planes normally stop by 11 pm, but do start up again around 5:30 or 6:00 am. I found the planes more entertainment than annoyance. The parking is free here, and there is plenty of it. If there is nothing available on the street, you can park in the driveway. It is so close to a lot the San Diego attractions - most places are walkable, but taxi are available and not that expensive. The house is clean and tidy. The breakfast is ok, but if you stay there more than one night you basically get the same breakfast again. They serve up beautifully cut fruit, and then some sort of egg pie - along with their homemade bread. The owners do not eat meat and do not put poisons into their lush garden - so they are staying true to who they are with what they serve their guests. Also, they give a two hour span when you can have breakfast so it makes sense to have something easy to serve so they aren't in the kitchen all morning. If I had any suggestion it would be the house is getting a little worn and could do with some sanding and painting around the trim work and windows. It would help put a little shine back into the 1888 house. If you've never tried a B & B, this would be a good one to start with - very charming.

My husband and I spent 3 nights in the Chauffeur’s room. We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely B&B. Upon our arrival Ben gave us an overview of San Diego, which was very nice. We loved the morning breakfast of fruit (something different was offered each morning we were there), home-made bread and jams, and a frittata. Various cerials were also available. The planes flying overhead are loud, but reading other reviews we expected that and it did not interrupt our stay or our sleep at night.

This inn is close to everything but I would get a car if you are not a walker. Besides, it is wonderful to drive to Coronado and the harbor and see the "Tall Ships". The hosts are very accommodating. They gave us detailed directions and recommendations to Balboa Park, the Harbor and the Zoo We ate meals at a couple of their suggestions and they were spot on! They even printed our boarding passes so we didn't have to think about that little detail. The airplanes are an issue; take ear plugs and stay on the first floor. The house is original in design and colors. It is not fancy but is very cozy and the price is definitely right!

Room Tip: Stay in the first floor. The breakfast is good but light. Plan on lunch somewhere.

My daughter and I spent just an overnight in San Diego and stayed at the Keating House. We were welcomed by Ben and Doug, who gave us some wonderful, detailed info about places to go, eat, etc. Our room was the Music Room on the first floor and was very comfortable and nicely decorated. (A great little touch was the towel heater in the bathroom). Our breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed chatting with them and the other guests. Some people complained about the planes flying overhead but we barely heard any. (perhaps because we were on the first floor??) We would have loved to have been able to stay another night or more and when next in San Diego, will definitely stay at the Keating House.

We have stayed at the Keating House several times and will return. This is a nicely restored 1888 Victorian mansion furnished with eclectic antiques and decorations, but is not overdone or "cute." Our favorite room is the music room--great bathroom with a big tub, and the bed is very comfortable. Hosts Ben and Doug are very friendly and helpful, and know everything about San Diego. The breakfast is always nice, especially the fresh fruit and homemade bread. There are always interesting guests at breakfast. We enjoy sitting on the porch or in the garden. The B&B is within easy walking distance of Balboa Park, Little Italy, the Gaslamp District, and many good restaurants. We go once or twice a year to attend the excellent theater at the Old Globe in Balboa Park, and particularly like the summer Shakespeare festival.

We stayed at Keating House for a couple of nights at the end of August and we loved it!
The owners are lovely and made sure we had all the info to make the most of our time in town. It was a pleasure spending time with them and the other guests over breakfast in the morning.
We stayed in the blue room and, although small, it was nice and clean (very high bed but comfortable, maybe a tiny small and short as we are used to a king size at home, but overall excellent). We loved the victorian features in the house.
Yes, the planes are litterally over your head and it was both scary when outside and noisiy inside, but this cannot be changed anywhere in San Diego.
Breakfast was really good too: fresh fruit, homemade frittatas, everything very yummy.
The location is in a safe and quiet neighborhood: we walked everywhere downtown and to the marina/port. There is a great diner around the corner and a couple of other excellents restaurants close to the park.
I would stay there again.
