So lucky were we to get week at the Gaslamp Plaza Suites! A historic building with marble and brass, and well built in a PERFECT LOCATION. We were right in the Gaslamp Quarter with tons of very cool restaurants, walking distance to the Convention Center, a huge mall, and only two blocks from the public bus/trolley lines. We had a lovely accommodation with two double beds in one room, and a pullout sofa in the other, two full baths, two minifridges, a microwave and plates/utensils, was perfect for us. Bonus: there is a Melting Pot on the first floor of the building...one night we popped in just for dessert fondue!! Merry is the lady who gives a welcome meeting on Mondays and clues you in to everything you need to know, including trolleys, buses, tours..lots of fun. No pool or actual restaurant, but every morning there is a FREE continental breakfast on the amazing rooftop, with views of the harbor, Coronado, downtown and the Gaslamp Quarter...nice extra! There is a RiteAid and CVS around the corner, so we stocked our fridge with sodas. Great LOCATION to head out to the fabulous Zoo, where a new baby Panda is just taking his first steps. Loved LaJolla and the seals! Love this lovely city with no humidity:)

Room Tip: We had the last room on the 10th floor and it was so quiet!

We stayed in a studio suite on the 9th floor where we could see right down to the water! The extra room with the couch and coffee table made us feel like we were at home. There was a small "kitchen" are where I could make my breakfast every morning. The bathroom was clean but had just one sink. No problem really for my husband and I. The bed was comfortable and the sleeping area was big enough for 2 nightstands. The rooms had blackout shades which kept out the light but not the noise from the bars. We didn't mind that either though but you can here the noise on the weekend. My husband went up to the rooftop for a complimentary breakfast sometimes and the view from there was awesome! We DID NOT park at the Gaslamp Plaza Suites though and instead went to Parkopedia on 6th and K Street where we usually paid $10.00 a night. Our total for the week was $90.00 for 7 nights where as most guests paid $210.00 for the valet parking at the hotel. Safe parking and we enjoyed the short walk in the morning and at night. It was very safe. We would definitely go back here again. The location was great for all the places that we went to.

We stayed here Sept 30 & Oct. 1. The suite rooms are very nice and spacious. Our suite decor did not look like the picture above - it was dated but clean and nice. I liked all the beautiful marble everywhere in the lobby and hallways but it all felt like it needed a good scrubbing - looking just a bit worn. The building is old and I liked learning the history of it and the old pictures but felt it needed a bit of cleaning in the public areas. The front desk clerks were very helpful and friendly as were the bellmen. Good location for the gaslamp district.

Pluses: Really nice rooms, very elegant with kitchenettes, HDTVs, Sofa & Desk. Great views from the rooftop terrace. Nice staff.

Minuses: No Free WiFi, pay WiFi rather slow. Breakfast was mostly pastries, breads, cereals, with no yogurt or protein other than peanut butter. Noisy streets that can be heard through the windows (at least in my room).

But overall, I really liked the place and thoroughly enjoyed my stay there and in San Diego.

Room Tip: The windows don't seem to block much sound, so high floors are probably best.

We booked this hotel as part of a Southwest Airlines package for a very reasonable rate. The room was very nice. The hotel had a rooftop garden with great views of the city and was a great place to sit and enjoy a cocktail. The good news is that is located right in the gaslamp district with close access to restaurants etc. The bad news is that it is close to the bars when they close at 2 am. We had a second floor room and the crowd noise was unbelievable and it lasted for about an hour. Maybe higher floor would be better. Lastly, the continental breakfast was pretty lame.

I reserved a mini suite here for a night after a bad experience at another hotel in San Diego. I was very impressed! The staff are attentive and thoughtful. For example, the woman at the front desk let me know she found me a room at an upper level becuase I was a single woman traveling by myself. I appreciated this attention to detail. My room was recently renovated, clean, and the bed was very comfortable. The price is a great deal and withinq walking distance to great food and sightseeing. I will return!

On checking room prices in downtown San Diego, we found them to be quite high (not surprising in a fairly major city, of course; but we wanted to be in the busy areas.  A delightful young man at The Hard Rock Cafe Hotel had suggested Gaslamp Suites.  So, we took a walk up to the hotel and were greeted by the most agreeable, fun and delightful lady called Merry.  She certainly lived up to her name and was very friendly and helpful.

She told us the hotel was the first high-rise building in San Diego and that it used to be a bank.

Our room was comfortable and delightful.  All the staff were very courteous and helpful.

If you have a car, be sure to check out costs of overnight parking because we are sure you could park your car for less yourself.  The hotel charges $30 per day to park.  However, breakfast is included in your room fee and it's a good self service breakfast served on the roof top of the hotel.  Great views!!  And you can eat your breakfast inside or out.

It all worked out to be approx one third cheaper than some of the other hotels in the city and also had free WiFi.

We highly recommend this hotel
