The cottages over the pier are incredibly cute and practical. They have everything you need for a cozy stay and are quaintly decorated. It's wonderful to sit on the spacious deck and see the entire beach and ocean right there. Sleeping with the sound of the waves crashing beneathe you and the occasional rocking of the pier is fun too. The staff is wonderful about providing anything you need and the cottages are kept super clean with comfy beds and crispy sheets. I love staying here and would never consider any other accomodation in San DIego.

Room Tip: The cottages on the south side of the pier have more sunshine on the decks. The north side is more...

Most of these cottages sit on the pier in beautiful Pacific Beach over the Pacific Ocean! Each cottage is separated from its neighbor. They are classic, super comfortable, beach cottages including a kitchen, bathroom, and one to two bedrooms. There is an outdoor seating area for each one on the water side, and the long pier walkway on the other side. The views from each cottage on either side of the pier are spectacular! The waves gently rock the pier, and the surf noise is soothing and exciting. Excellent breakfast , lunch and dinner establishments are within walking distance, as are markets, bars, and shopping. Sunsets at the end of the pier are noteworthy, and the bird's eye view of surfers makes for fabulous photos.
The nearby boardwalk furnishes miles of flat surface for walking, jogging, bike riding, skating, skateboarding, and people watching. The clean, wide beaches provide surf and sun recreation and are monitored year round by renowned life guards in towers and roving Jeeps.

Room Tip: We prefer room 7 because it looks down the tide line. We also suggest odd number cottages since they...

Some hotels have an ocean view, here you are OVER the ocean!!! We've stayed at the Crystal Pier four times and we love it. They have cute little cottages that sit on a pier over the ocean. You get to sleep to the roar of the waves! You wake up and look out your window at people surfing. The cottages are of course very nautical in their decor. Ours was super clean and neat with lots of white and blue. I wouldn't call these luxury rooms, but they are very, very nice, kind of a bed and breakfast kind-of feel to them. We had a little private courtyard between our cabin and the ocean (we rented cottage C this time). You get to drive your car right out on the pier and park by your cottage. You have access to all the restaurants, bars, and shops along Pacific Beach. You are just steps away from the ocean, there is a big wide sidewalk along Pacific Beach that you can use and see all types of runners, walkers, bikers, roller-bladers, etc etc using that. Its just great! The Kona Grill is right at the entrance to the pier and we love their breakfast and coffee! We love this place!!!

These cottages are on the only pier in Pacific Beach. If you're looking for a unique lodging experience, this is it--the units are literally on the pier so you are right over the surf and beach--look down through the deck boards and you see water. The surf is fairly loud and might take some getting used to, but the really strange part is the constant movement of the pier from the waves pounding on the pilings. This means that the cottage shakes a little every time the pier is hit by a big wave, especially in a storm or rising tide--feels almost like small earthquakes. This may be unsettling for some folks, but no worries--they've stood up to the pounding for decades.

The cottages are old but comfortable and cute. The bedroom and bathroom are small by today's standards. The kitchen is small but very functional. We stayed in a one bedroom cottage on the north side, middle of the pier. There is a futon in the living room that would sleep one adult or two small kids. Each unit has a deck with a table, chairs and recliners. In the winter the units on the south side get more sun but I think the north side has a better view.

You can park your car in front of your unit--turning around is a challenge. It's a public pier so there are people walking by from 8am til 8pm but it's well secured with a locked gate after 8pm.

I would recommend this place if you don't mind the sound and movement caused by the surf--the reason I didn't give it more stars. It's certainly a fun and unique lodging experience.

The thunder of the surf under our room, the surfers in the morning, the dolphins in the morning and the stars in the sky at night make this magical. Leave the pier and take a peaceful walk along the beach. The office staff is friendly and the pier dog is an added plus. During the day the pier is hopping, but at night it is ours alone. Breakfast is within walking distance and so is dinner or lunch. The cottage is immaculate. Very well cared for. Kitchen makes it nice to eat in if you want. We will be back.

Great place. 2nd. Time we have stayed here. Good places to eat close by. Check out the fat fish. Great for long walks on the beach. Close to transportion. Easy bus trip to old town. The food was great there also.

Room Tip: Choose the south side.

My wife and I live in San Diego and frequent the Mission Beach boardwalk of which the Crystal Pier Hotel and Cottages is a unique feature. For years we have wanted to stay but were deterred by the price per night. This year we decided to finally make reservations and stayed in Cottage A for two nights. We arrived on a somewhat rare rainy night in San Diego and were delighted to discover the entire pier is decked out with Christmas lights and the traditional Christmas tree at the end of the pier. Better yet, from inside our spacious, well appointed room on the King bed we could see the pier and the lights. The crashing surf made for the perfect white background noise to lull us to a sound sleep both nights. A magical two nights and days. The room was clean, well appointed and the shower head is the best either one of us have ever experienced. Definitely not the typical fern misting type one usually finds in hotels.

Room Tip: Cottage A is at the very end of the cottages on the pier on the south side so for the late fall, win...
