Owner description: The Tony Award-winning Old Globe is one of the country’s leading professional regional theatres and has stood as San Diego’s flagship arts institution for over 80 years. Under the leadership of Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein, The Old Globe produces a year-round season of 15 productions of classic, contemporary, and new works on its three Balboa Park stages: the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the 600-seat Old Globe Theatre and the 250-seat Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, both part of The Old Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, and the 605-seat outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre, home of its internationally renowned Shakespeare Festival. More than 250,000 people attend Globe productions annually and participate in the theatre’s education and community programs. “Shakespeare's Dream”

Delightful summer night enjoying A Midsummer Night's Dream under the stars in an intimate outdoor venue. What a great way to spend a late summer evening. Easy to get to, good restaurants nearby, excellent production. Who could ask for more?

“Great place for a night out in SD”

This is a perfect venue for plays and musicals. In the middle of beautiful Balboa Park, it's a great place to take friends from out-of-town. Also, if you're under 30, tickets are only $20 :)

“Love coming to the "Old" Theatre”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

We've been here with our family on a couple of occasions, mostly to see The Grinch at Christmastime each year. We love coming here! The grounds around the theater are incredibly beautiful -- we always get there early just to walk around and enjoy the scenery. There is a great little coffee bistro just outside the theater where we can enjoy a coffee/hot cocoa before the show. (They offer food items, too, but as we are gluten free, we really don't have any options here.) Then the theater itself is just beautiful -- just what you would expect with its namesake. Treat yourself before/after a show to a meal at adjacent Prado restaurant. Makes for a wonderful family day out!

“Great venue for plays located in the heart of one of the best parks in the world.”
Reviewed October 6, 2013 via mobile

Set in the wonderful Balboa Park, the Globe Theatre makes it home in a very romantic setting a 10 minute walk across a beautiful bridge from some very nice restaurants.
The view of the city lights and the museums at night are not to be missed.
The globe theatre actually has three stages - two inside and one outside.
So there can be more than one activity going on on any given date.
It supported by a very active theatre community which has renovated the theatre complex into one of the nicest.
We have seen a number of plays and performances here and it is worth the trip from out of town to attend.
