“Great venue for plays located in the heart of one of the best parks in the world.”

Set in the wonderful Balboa Park, the Globe Theatre makes it home in a very romantic setting a 10 minute walk across a beautiful bridge from some very nice restaurants.
The view of the city lights and the museums at night are not to be missed.
The globe theatre actually has three stages - two inside and one outside.
So there can be more than one activity going on on any given date.
It supported by a very active theatre community which has renovated the theatre complex into one of the nicest.
We have seen a number of plays and performances here and it is worth the trip from out of town to attend.

Old Globe always has an exceptional stage production, offering a wonderful experience. The summer Shakespeare Festival is superb. The holiday shows (Dr. Seuss) a must for families of all ages.

“Intimate”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2013

This is an intimate theatre just like the one in Stratford that Shakespear put on his plays. It is closed in on the sides but there is no roof, so it is an outdoor theatre. The lighting and sound were both good. The only warning, if you sit in the front row, you may get spit on by the actors.

“Great Shakespeare”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2013

We traveled to San Diego to attend the summer Shakespeare festival. We saw 2 Shakespeare plays and 1 by Tom Stoppard. As always in our experience, the acting and staging were very good. We will return.

“Going round and round”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2013

A kind of recreation of England's of Shakespeare theater which houses performances of things other than plays by the old bard.
Some productions are done in an outdoor theater next door which has stage elevators and lots of mechanical stage systems.
Take a sweater or wear a long sleeve shirt for outside performances. Evenings can be cool
