Under the leadership of Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein, The Old Globe produces a year-round season of 15 productions of classic, contemporary, and new works on its three Balboa Park stages: the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the 600-seat Old Globe Theatre and the 250-seat Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, both part of The Old Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, and the 605-seat outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre, home of its internationally renowned Shakespeare Festival. More than 250,000 people attend Globe productions annually and participate in the theatre’s education and community programs. Reviewed September 14, 2013

A kind of recreation of England's of Shakespeare theater which houses performances of things other than plays by the old bard.
Some productions are done in an outdoor theater next door which has stage elevators and lots of mechanical stage systems.
Take a sweater or wear a long sleeve shirt for outside performances. Evenings can be cool

“Go Back in Time Under The Moonlight”

Simply enjoyed the classic plays with the sky overhead. You will lose yourself in this venue. This is not for those needing instant thrills every second, but it is for those that appreciate the real and true classics and arts. I like to dress up for this venue, and sometimes even wear period costume on occasion, with friends. Please bring a sweater or jacket, as the night air can cool down quite a bit.

This was a wonderful performance of The Merchat Of Venice. The outdoor theater was perfect for a very warm September night.

“Summer Shakespeare a must.”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

We always purchase the summer Shakespeare series here. The productions are magical including an open stage that utilizes the natural trees behind it among other fantastic visuals. The plaza in front of the Old Globe enclave is a great meeting place, in a great Park (even if you only people watch and dont have tickets) and Molly's Pub serves light but filling fare and beverages. Recently we treated ourselves to one of the best lemon bars we have ever had. A peaceful and lovely evening is guaranteed at the Globe's Summer Shakespeare productions. Blankets and hearing devices are available for a nominal sum. Helps on those hard seats.
