Owner description: The Tony Award-winning Old Globe is one of the country’s leading professional regional theatres and has stood as San Diego’s flagship arts institution for over 80 years. Under the leadership of Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein, The Old Globe produces a year-round season of 15 productions of classic, contemporary, and new works on its three Balboa Park stages: the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the 600-seat Old Globe Theatre and the 250-seat Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, both part of The Old Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, and the 605-seat outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre, home of its internationally renowned Shakespeare Festival. More than 250,000 people attend Globe productions annually and participate in the theatre’s education and community programs. Numerous world premieres such as the 2014 Tony Award winner for Best Musical, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, Bright Star, Allegiance, The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and the annual holiday musical Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! have been developed at The Old Globe and have gone on to enjoy highly successful runs on Broadway and at regional theatres across the country.

“Located in Balboa Park where excellent plays are given.”
Reviewed May 18, 2013

The location is prefect and it is a replica of the Old Globe Theatre in England. They have both old and new plays there.

“Love the Old Globe”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

I have seen many plays over the years. The outdoor theater is my favorite. Go, you will love it! The location in balboa park is a must visit. We go to San Diego several times a year, usually for a month at a time, and never miss a visit to the Old Globe complex.

“Family Yelling Plays”
Reviewed May 11, 2013

Almost every play seem to be about family members yelling at each other. Why the Globe keeps putting these on, is beyond me. If it wasn't for my wife, I'd leave the theater within minutes for a least half the plays they put on. Yelling in not "ENTERTAINING"!!!!

“Not a bad seat in the place”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

I was fortunate enough to be around when the new musical "Allegiance" premiered in San Diego with cast members George Takai and Lea Salonga at the forefront. I had bought tickets on the cheap for myself and my son who was visiting. Not only was the show terrific, but every seat in the house looked like it was a really good one. And during intermission you are not stuck indoors, but can go outside and get your drinks and food. A lovely experience in the middle of a lovely museum park. Try it out if you haven't already.

“Always worth a visit!”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

The Old Globe is one of the leading regional theatres in the U.S. (won the regional Tony a few years back). Many new musicals go from the Globe to Broadway. The Globe stages an excellent Shakespeare festival in the summer (the cast performs three shows in repertory), and the fall through spring season is a feast of classics, contemporary theatre, musicals, and the Christmas children's classic "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". If you're a San Diego resident, you should go -- a lot. If you're a tourist, be sure to include a trip to the Globe in your visit to San Diego.
