Owner description: The Tony Award-winning Old Globe is one of the country’s leading professional regional theatres and has stood as San Diego’s flagship arts institution for over 80 years. Under the leadership of Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein, The Old Globe produces a year-round season of 15 productions of classic, contemporary, and new works on its three Balboa Park stages: the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the 600-seat Old Globe Theatre and the 250-seat Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, both part of The Old Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, and the 605-seat outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre, home of its internationally renowned Shakespeare Festival. More than 250,000 people attend Globe productions annually and participate in the theatre’s education and community programs. Numerous world premieres such as the 2014 Tony Award winner for Best Musical, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, Bright Star, Allegiance, The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and the annual holiday musical Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! have been developed at The Old Globe and have gone on to enjoy highly successful runs on Broadway and at regional theatres across the country.

Everyone should attend a production at the Old Globe at least once in their lives! The theatres themselves have a reputation for innovative, quality productions and the size & acoustics are perfect.

“Good architecture”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

Its a pity that I didn't had a chance to catch a show in here. but it has good architecture. And the building next to it has a great carvings and mosaics which is a good place for photography session or pre-wedding session.

“Classic experience”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

Theatre in the round is a unique experience and the outdoor performances are wonderful in the summer evenings. Great for dates or families with older children. Not many options for dining at the park - recommend dinner just off Park Blvd on the West side of the park. Spend time after the show walking through the park down the prada.

“World famous plays just minutes from home.”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

I've seen so many terrific plays here- and at one preview was sitting next to the playwrite - he said he was taking notes on where I laughed or giggled and appreciated my 'input.'
Just saw A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder- more laughter and giggles. Next play will sober me up- Ibsen's The Doll House- but whatever I see I know there isn't a bad seat in the house.

Catch a show here if you can. Balboa Park is a great place, and having the Old Globe there just adds to it's charm.
