Owner description: The Tony Award-winning Old Globe is one of the country’s leading professional regional theatres and has stood as San Diego’s flagship arts institution for over 80 years. Under the leadership of Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein, The Old Globe produces a year-round season of 15 productions of classic, contemporary, and new works on its three Balboa Park stages: the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the 600-seat Old Globe Theatre and the 250-seat Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, both part of The Old Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, and the 605-seat outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre, home of its internationally renowned Shakespeare Festival. More than 250,000 people attend Globe productions annually and participate in the theatre’s education and community programs. Numerous world premieres such as the 2014 Tony Award winner for Best Musical, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, Bright Star, Allegiance, The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and the annual holiday musical Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! have been developed at The Old Globe and have gone on to enjoy highly successful runs on Broadway and at regional theatres across the country.

A lot of hoopla is raised about this theater - and deservedly so. It is not too large and the actors are first rate. Seats are well situated so that you can easily see the stage from anywhere. We sat in the right section, fifth row, and it was easy to see over the people in front of us. We were surprised that the acoustics were such that when actors went to the other side of the stage or turned away from us we could not clearly hear them. Also, the rows of seats are close together - I kept getting kick bumps from the person behind me - which makes it necessary to stand up whenever someone needs to get in or out of the row. Arrive early for good parking or use valet. If you don't, be prepared to walk the equivalent of several blocks. Parking is free but there are several other museums, restaurants, etc which attract people to beautiful Balboa park.

We have had the greatest experience with The Old Globe, and particularly their $20 tickets for the under 30 crowd. We'd never be able to afford the theater otherwise, and this program has allowed us to go regularly! We purchase seasons tickets every year, but our favorite is the summer Shakespeare Festival held in the outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre. Fantastic performances

A note: they are very strict about enforcing their $20 under 30 program so make sure you have IDs for each person if you purchase them!

I loved this theater! The small venue allowed everyone to hear the play well. We saw Pygmalion here, and remarked how very different the play was in emphasis from the film.

The Old Globe is impressive in a quiet way. There's not a bad seat in the house and they offer excellent variety in shows, all of the highest quality. The staff is very kind, seating, cocktails and sandwiches outside under the heated tent before the show were wonderful. It's completely worth the 1 1/2 hour drive to be there. Choosing between here and L.A., I would buy season tickets here. ("Pygmalion" was Brilliant!)

Great theatrical venue! Shows are always of top caliber. They have also introduced several shows that wound up on Broadway.
